Too healthy for WLS?!

Recently approved for Medicaid. Had appointment with PCP. Since I didn't have insurance I couldn't afford to see a DR for weight control. Criteria for Medicaid to pay for WLS; 1 year of failed physician supervised weight loss attempts and other co-morbidities. My cholesterol is 146 HDL is 33, LDL is 71, my BP was/is 132 over 80. My tryglycerides are way up, and I might have sleep apnea, but other than that nothing is wrong with me despite weighing over 350. I have been 100+lbs overweight for at least 15 years. Dr. started me on Adipex. My question is am I really going to have to wait a year for surgery? I may not have Medicaid for a whole year. Is there any way around this? Sorry this was so long, any response is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is not just Medicaid--most insurance that will pay for WLS wants you to try physician monitored diet first. If you have ANY medical history that includes weight record, you may be able to get your doctor to write a letter about your attempts to lose weight in the past. Good luck to you! Joy
