I made it to the losing side
I had my surgery on the 14th with Dr. Gibbs at St. Vincent and just got home today. Everything went perferct and I'm getting in all my liquids. I haven't been nauseous and the food is going down fine. I just pray that it keeps going as well as it has so far. Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it and I'm home and doing well. The only regret I have was having the epidural. It was excruciating to have it put in, and I'm not sure it gave me any more relief than the pain pump would have. Other than that, I was thrilled with the experience. The only advise I can give to pre ops is to get out of that bed and walk as soon as possible. It has helped me so much with the pain, gas and soreness. God Bless Dr. Gibbs and everyone that helped take care of me during my stay. I'm totally new at this, but am more than happy to help pre ops in any way I can. Thanks to everyone for your support.
Way to go Sheila. I am so glad you had positive things to say! Welcome to the losing side! It is absolutely wonderful. Keep up the positive attitude and things will be bright. Fight off the feelings of despair and get on line when you need the support. That helps. I am so thankful for this website. Keep us posted.

Way to go girl!!! Congratulations and I hope everything continues to go great for you. I am pre-op and trying to get all my "evaluations" done. Hopefully by Monday of next week they will be completed. How long did it take you to get a surgery date after your insurance approved your surgery? And how soon did you get to see Dr. Gibbs for a consult? I am getting so excited about starting this journey you are on...I'm anxious to know everything! Please keep us updated and thanks about the hint about the epidural. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so I'll have to think about that one.
Take care and God bless,
Charlene
I had an epidural for post-op pain and it was great! No problem starting it. No problems walking with it. I didn't think it was doing anything at all until I requested them to turn it down! I found it was much easier to do the walking with it going! LOL. I did have them wean me off it instead of just turning it off though. I don't do well on general pain meds, so I was really glad to have this. I only took 2 pain pills after they took me off it (and I had double open surgery -- WLS and hysterectomy).
