Dr. Gibbs or Dr. Lutrell self-pay.
I would like to hear any experiences with anyone that has self-pay and insurance with Dr. Gibbs in Little Rock. I would like to know about hospital stay, price and anything you can tell me, I am from Indiana and I am considering traveling to Little Rock for self-pay surgery, and have heard nothing but great things about these two surgeons! I would like to know about how long the process is and hospital stay and information would be helpfull! Thank you.
Dr. Gibbs is going to do my surg in Dec, and even though I have ins paying I did get self pay info....Doctor Fee:4000, hosp:9250, anesthesia:1650, and path&lab:200....so right at 15,000. Dr. Kerry Ozment also does it for 15,000 and he is the head of St.Vincent's Bariatric Center in Little Rock. That's who I was going to use, but insurance wouldn't permit. He's done over 7000 surgeries with only 4 mortalities. He did recommend Dr.Gibbs also. Good Luck!
Hi Harmonie,
I'm doing self-pay with Dr Gibbs. You would first have to attend a seminar. I attended one on Sept. 30. After the the seminar, it took a little over a week to get my surgery date. My surgery date is December 3rd. If you live far away (like you do), then you can have all of your pre-op stuff done the day before surgery. That would also include your one-on-one with Dr. Gibbs and talking to a nutritionist. Since I live 3 hours away from Little Rock, My pre-op stuff is Dec 2nd.
There are two hospitals that he preforms surgerys at. St. Vincents and Baptist. The lap procedure can not be done at St Vincents. I'm having mine done open at Baptist. There's about a $5,000 difference between Lap and Open. The price for Baptist has gone up some. Here's what the breakdown between the two are.
------------------- Open------------------------- Lap
Sugeon Fee: ------$4000-------------------------$6700
Baptist Hospital:---$10,000-----------------------$13,000
(That's for 6 days, after that it's $1525 a day)
AHG Anesth.:------$1150--------------------------$1150
(additional $500 for post-up epidural)
Path labs:--------- Will range from $100-$200 and will be billed to you.
Initial office visit:---$133-$221
I haven't talked with Dr. Gibbs personally yet. But he gave a really good seminar. I didn't really learn anything new because I have researched this a lot. But the seminar did convince my sister who was with me that this surgery might not be as bad as the general public seems to think it is.
I hope this helps.
Melissa
Hi Harmonie,
I did self pay. It was around 14,000.00 for everything. Dr. Luttrell was my surgeon. Becasue I was self pay, I got to pick my date and it was within two weeks of my seminar. The seminar is wonderful and informative. I love Dr. Luttrell, but Dr. Ozment is there too. Dr. O is the head of the bariatric center, he has performed numerous surgeries and trained Dr. Luttrell, Dr. Gibbs, and at one time Dr. Baker. It would be a tough choice to choose between the Dr. O, Dr. Luttrell or Dr. Gibbs, just go with your heart. That is what I did. The thing about the hospital stay , at St. Vincents they only allow 3 days in the cash price, when you have the surgery at Baptist, the cash price includes 6 or 7 days. Dr. O does not perform at Baptist. Dr. Luttrell and Dr. Gibbs do. I wish I would have checked into Baptist a little better. I was not at all satisfied with my stay at St. Vincent's. The nurses were lazy, the room was hot, and if I did not have a family member there with me, I doubt I would have done so well. Feel free to email me if you have any more question..
Good Luck,
Angie
