I just found out that I don't require prior authorization for my WLS (Federal Blue Cross/Blue Shield)! I am ready to get my labwork done and schedule a date for surgery! I'm very excited by also very nervous...but I know that this is a step I have to take to take control of my life again and get moving in the right direction...or just get moving again, for that matter! Please pray for me as I begin this journey. I know it is the right decision and that it will be the tool I need to take back my life from the weight monster!! I'm sure I will have a million questions as I move forward and thanks in advance for your help and patience.

Hey Karen, Good luck with your surgery. I am scheduled for Oct. 14 with Dr. Gibbs. I'm starting to get excited and a little nervous. Take care and keep us posted with your surgery date. Shelia 230\surgery 10\4\goal 125

That's great news, Karen! What doctor will you be using? I live in Little Rock and would be glad to talk to you if you have questions. Dr. Baker did my surgery and he is great! Let us know as you move along toward your day... Joy

He comes so highly recommended! I was very concerned about the risks when I first started thinking about surgery. However, I now know that the risk in remaining the size I am far outweighs (no pun intended!) the risks of the surgery. Now all I have to do is wait. I have a program with my work that allows for me to have extra money removed from my paycheck each week to pay for medical expenses. It is sort of like financing all your medical expenses for the year that insurance won't pay for! Anyway, once I join the program in January, they will pay for the amount that isn't covered by BCBS and then that amount will be taken out of my check the rest of the year! So, although I would love to have the surgery next month, it makes more financial sense to wait until January. I am sure I will have a ton more questions as I get further along. Thanks again, Karen

I understand about the insurance! I have BCBS of Cal. They paid well for me once I got the approval through. I hit my out of pocket max for the year and for the rest of this year they pay 100% of everything for me! Dr. Baker is stern and tough, expecially in the preop consult. But he is also very successful. I am so glad I chose him. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help you. Joy
