Does anyone know?

I'm going to Dr. Gibbs's seminar at the end of this month. How long does it take to get a date for the surgery? I will be self-pay. Thanks, Melissa

I did self pay and I was schduled within two weeks. The seminar is great. Will you being having surgery at St. Vincents or Baptist?

That would be so great! I just kind of figured that I would be having it at Baptist, but I really don't know. I'm not familiar with either. I've read both good and bad reviews for both from this board. Melissa

Just as an fyi, I am having surgery with doctor Gibbs on Oct. 14 at St. Vincent and if you have it done there, they are only doing open surgeries at St. Vincent. I wanted lap, but St. Vincent is in my insurance network. I went to the seminar on Aug 17. So, even with insurance approval, my date is less than 2 months from the initial seminar. Being self pay you should get a date very quickly. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I will probably be having open since it's cheaper. I noticed that we're neighbors. Do you know of any support groups in Fayetteville? Good luck on your surgery! Melissa

Hi Melissa, I live in Bethel Heights and wanted to let you know there is a support group that meets at St Marys Hospital at 2pm one Sunday in ea month. I can't rememeber what Sunday of the month they meet but you could probably call the hospital and ask. I had my lap RnY 8/03 at UAMS in Little Rock. I have been fairly sucessful, I had 120 lbs to loose and I've lost 80...gone from a size 26 to a 16. I am hoping I will loose the last 40 lbs in the next yr. The wt lose has slowed way down, about 1lb per week now. I have had alot of surgeries, C-section, hysterectomy, and back surgery but the WLS was a BIG surgery. But I would do it again tomorrow.
