My surgeon says diet sodas are ok in moderation. I haven't had any since the day of surgery. I just don't want to tempt myself. I was so addicted to them. I am 7 weeks out and can eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food depending on what it is. I always stop before I feel full as it seem to have a delayed sense of fullness. It doesn't usually hit me until 15 to 30 minutes after I have finished eating. I got to full once and thought I was going to die, it hurt really bad and I could not throw it up. So long as you are satisfied with what you are eating, I think it is better to stop before you are to full.

I am trying to get off diet coles myself before I have surgery. They are so additive, it is hard. Try drinking Crystle light. It comes in many flavors. Better to be Safe than Sorry

Diet coke works against you several ways. First, the carbonation tends to expand in your stomach. Your new pouch does not have much room for that, and I found that burping is not as easy as it used to be! It is somewhat easier for me at this point after 5 months, but I still get quite uncomfortable sometimes before I get rid of bubbles. Secondly, the caffeine causes dehydration. Many say that you need to get in an equal part of water for any caffeinated drink in addition to the required fluids per day. Caffeine is also an appetite stimulant. Studies of people who gained back their lost weight vs people who did not, showed much higher percentages of gainers were carbonated drinkers. Just some "food" for thought. (I miss it too!) Joy

Three weeks before my surgery I stopped drinking diet coke because I started The South Beach diet. I have been tempted and actually took a little bitty sip of a caffiene free diet coke. YUCK! Have decided the pain from the gas it builds up in the pouch is not worth trying it. I drink lots of Crystal lite and love the lemon-berry slushes from Sonic. I am 9 weeks out from surgery and can eat about 1/2 cup or little more of food. The minute I feel full I stop! Only had one time of overeating and it put me down for 30 minutes and I threw up! An option is to eat, then quit, walk around for a few minutes and come back and eat again. I haven't been hungry but can always eat. But the whole idea is not to eat too much because you don't want to stretch the pouch because then you've defeated your purpose of the surgery - to lose the weight. Good luck! Tina, My surgeon say's No Sodas no matter what ever. If you feel you can't live without a soda then open it and let it set for a while before drinking. I tried 1 sip after surgery and it hurt my stomach bad. Now I don't even miss them. I would suggest not to drink them. Hugs Debbie Moya
