Starting my journey

Hi All, I'm just starting my journey. I have been obese my entire life and have decided that I can't live this way any longer. I am insulin resistant, have been diagnosed with PCOS, have joint pain, etc... I called and made an appointment with my PCP yesterday. She is wonderful and I'm sure she will be happy to give me a referral for a bariatric surgeon. I live in the Springdale area and am thinking of going with Dr. Alston or Oman. Has anyone used them? Do either of them do the Lap RNY? I had an open gallbladder removal and also a C-Section with my daughter, so I've had enough open surgeries. Also, does anyone know if they are helpful in getting the insurance approval? I have United Healthcare Select EPO and when I called to see if there was an exclusion for WLS, the only answer I got was that they had to have the procedure code before they could tell me if they covered it or not and what their guidelines are. I have no idea what the procedure code is. Anyway, my appt isn't until July 14 with my PCP. It takes forever to get in, but she is a great doctor and will be supportive of my decision.

Hi Shelia! Good luck in gaining approval for your surgery....I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya! I am not familiar with the doctors you mentioned, but as long as you research their credentials well, and ask for opinions from this forum, you should be just fine. Good luck on your journey! Shell
