Starting my journey
Hi All,
I'm just starting my journey. I have been obese my entire life and have decided that I can't live this way any longer. I am insulin resistant, have been diagnosed with PCOS, have joint pain, etc... I called and made an appointment with my PCP yesterday. She is wonderful and I'm sure she will be happy to give me a referral for a bariatric surgeon. I live in the Springdale area and am thinking of going with Dr. Alston or Oman. Has anyone used them? Do either of them do the Lap RNY? I had an open gallbladder removal and also a C-Section with my daughter, so I've had enough open surgeries. Also, does anyone know if they are helpful in getting the insurance approval? I have United Healthcare Select EPO and when I called to see if there was an exclusion for WLS, the only answer I got was that they had to have the procedure code before they could tell me if they covered it or not and what their guidelines are. I have no idea what the procedure code is. Anyway, my appt isn't until July 14 with my PCP. It takes forever to get in, but she is a great doctor and will be supportive of my decision.
