Hello
Carolyn, welcome aboard! I don't know anyone personally, but I have read of people your age and older having this surgery. Did you get that terrible storm down your way? Boy, it scared us over here! Good luck and God Bless with your surgery. By the way, who is your surgeon?

Hello Carolyn, this is a wonderful web site. I am 56 1/2 years old. I was scheduled to have the lap RNY Tuesday but as of last Thursday our hospital decided I was too old. The cut off age here is 55. I was 3 months past 55 when we started this mess. I am so angry. The Risk Management committee is suppose to meet next week and decide whether or not to allow people over 55 to have the surgery.
Have you had the surgery or just looking into it. I understand the doctors and hospitals in Little Rock with us "older" people.

I've been reading up on both RNY & Lapband and from what I've seen so far the RNY can be very hard on a body. Maybe that is their reasoning, that being older you will have a harder time or more complications? What reason did they give? I'm personally thinking of having the Lapband because it's easier on the body and I can adjust the band to keep losing weight even after the 2 year window. Just can't bring myself to reroute my insides and deal with the malabsorption problems.
I'd ask if they would do the Lapband, at least it's a WLS and people have had success with it.
