It has been an interesting journey. They didn't weigh me the day I had surgery so I am going to go by my weight when I had my consultation on the 8th with Dr. Baker. My surgery was on the 13th. But from the 8th until now i have lost 23 lbs. Unfortunately I do not yet feel well enough to enjoy it. I went for a ride with my family yesterday afternoon and we had to pull over because i got sick. The only thing that I had was water to drink. I also got sick again this morning. Is this normal? I also have a lot a pressure around my insicion. I think it come mostly from my breasts, I can't wear a bra yet and they are quite a burden. Any Suggestions? Well I am going to go for now. Sheila D.

Shelia, You are doing great! Just becareful with the water it is easy to get to much and in the same breath it is to easy to get to little. Remember for now if your having a problem with water try drinking only 1 0z every 10 min. And that is constant sipping only. See if this helps. And I didn't go anywhere for about 1 week. I was so sick I would almost pass out. I kept a glass of water by the bed and take a sip at night when I woke up. In about 2-3 weeks you should feel a whole lot better. Yes for me pressure was normal. Everything sound's normal to me. I couldn't wear a bra for about 2 weeks. And then I had to put a bandaid at the top of my incetion to keep my bra from rubbing. You will do great! Just please follow your diet it is very Important. Hugs and Best wishes on the rest of your journey Debbie Moya Dr. Baker 9/22/03 354/194/147

Sheila, hang in there. I am post op as of 1 week yesterday. I know it's not gonna all be a bed of roses but I am glad to hear there are some yucky days....not that I am in no way glad you are experiencing problems - I will keep you in thoughts and prayers. If you need a sounding board that's close by just let me know. Take care - do what those post opers tell you what to do and how they handled their problems and you'll get over the "Hump". Hang in there--it gets better. The bra thing took a couple of weeks for me. Actually I lost enough weight that the bras were a bit looser before they felt OK. I stuffed a handkerchief folded up over the incision where the bra rubs. Also, I had a lot of swelling for 2-3 weeks post op. My left side was hard. That also takes time. It seems like all I did for 2 weeks was focus on drinking and eating the right things, then it got easier and I could fit in a little life! Your hernia repair may be causing you some recovery discomfort also. Dr Baker does good work. Don't hesitate to call his office to ask questions. Courtney is especially helpful about eating questions. I hope each day gets easier for you! Joy -32 lbs since 3/1

Thank you very much everyone. Just to let everyone know I am doing much better these past 2 days. Most of the pain is gone and it is getting so much easier to drink liquids. I keep something with me all the time. It is either very cold ice water, orange juice, apple juice, V-8. Eating is much better. And as of yesterday I have lost 28 pounds. And I am just getting started. I can't believe it. The main thing that I have problems with is bending over. I am getting more walking in so this is making me feel better. I can only seem to do about 5 to 10 minutes at a time before the heart starts pounding. I just have to get into shape. Thanks again for every one's support. Sheila -28 as of 4/23/2004 10 days post op and 15 days after consultation.
