You are close. The stomach is divided into a small area (pouch) and the remainder part with staples. Often the two parts are actually cut apart, but this varies with the doctor. The remainder is attached to the lower intestines. The intestines are cut about 2 feet below their attachment to the remainder stomach. The lower end of the intestines is connected to the new pouch. The loose end hanging from the remainder stomach is connected back to the rest of the intestines in the shape of a "Y" so that the stomach enzymes can get to the food that goes through the pouch. No food ever goes through the remainder stomach again. The pouch reduces what you can eat at a sitting. The section of unused intestines reduces how much of what you eat actually gets absorbed. Does this help? Joy
