RNY as treatment for gerd?
It's a bit of an overkill if that is the only reason you are having WLS, but one of the effects of RNY is that most of the acid producing areas of the stomach are in the unused portion and thus are cut off from the esophagus. The result is that GERD is completely gone in most cases, and greatly reduced in others.
I'm looking forward to that!!!

Hi Amanda. Well I just went to get fitted for CPAP last night. Just have to wait for them to call my doctor and have him subscribe the machine. Not at all thrilled with that. The first thing I thought was, " If I have to live with this the rest of my life, it will be a short one. " I guess it is going to help some. But, it is sort of like putting an inch long band aid on a three foot long open wound. If you get my drift. The weight is causing all of these co-morbidities and getting rid of it is the cure.
I didn't even realize I had GERD. I knew I had bad acid indegestion. I figured it was caused by the meds. Well it has gotten worse. I didn't realize just how little the medicines (in the long run) will do for this. Or how dangerous some of them can be. Actually all the over the counter stuff I have taken so far hasn't done much either.
I have my first official meeting with the folks at Ark. Rehab. March first. I hope to find some good letters to get some ideas from, so that I can write my own and get the dr.'s to sign them. The doctors will write them, but I want to make sure they know everything and the dr.'s don't go into great detail about stuff. And I want them to be able to see how awful life is for me weighing this much. And maybe they will do their best to help. And maybe they won't really care. I just have to try.
Amanda, did you have gerd? Asthma? Other co-morbidities? I am so glad you are doing well. How much weight have you lost?
