Medicaid not Rehab

Does anyone know what the process is with medicaid (not ar rehab)? Do I go see my pcp first then get a referral? Or do I just go to the surgeon. Or do I go through my case worker? And after that, what is the process and how much time on the average does it take to set a surgery date? And does medicaid pay for all of it? Any feed back would be great. Oh and do they cover all types and if not which ones do they cover?

Welcome Lisa! I too, am new here. Everyone has made me feel so welcome. As far as your questions go?? Well; wish I knew, wish I could help, but I have no doubt that someone here can. I am so glad I found this site. I can't imagine going through this myself.

Lisa, I posted this in the other thread, but I'm re-posting it here. go to your PCP for referral -- I recommend Dr. John W. Baker at Baptist in LR -- then contact Becky at Dr. Baker's office. They have a website: www.obesity-surgery.net Ask Becky to help you with the step by step on how to apply through Medicaid. She is great and very helpful, also, she understands; she's had the surgery herself. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much, ok cool, so now I am set I will see my pcp next week and she is so wonderful that she will ask me who I want to see then make the referral. Do you know if Dr. Baker excepts medicaid? also I have heard about the 1 year supervised diet, well I am in luck I was on Phen-fen for 11 months, and when it got pulled by the fda I was put on an 800 calorie a day diet, so my year thing should be covered. I hope.... unless.... they require it to be a recent 1 year diet.
