UPDATE: Karen's Daughter here with info about her. Original Post by Karen Church at 8:29 PM PST on 12/25/2003 Pine Bluff, AR - RNY (12/04/2003) Hi, I'm Sarah, Karen's daughter. Just wanted to let you all know how she is doing. Wasn't sure if she had an angel or not, she had mentioned it but wasn't sure. She went in on December the 4th for surgery on a hernia and for what I am asumming was the gastro surgery. She was doing fine till the 7th when they found some leakage and so they put her under anestesia again and went in and found a staple wasn't done right and was leaking, they put a drain tube on the front of her stomach, its full of infection and within a few days she had double pnumonia in both lungs. This past monday my dad called me in Texas and told me to come on to see her, they weren't sure if she would make it. Her doctor didn't tell my dad and family anything, they said she was fine, he finally decided to get a second opinion and the new doctor told us about the infection in her stomach, we all just found out about just what was going on this past monday. My dad fired her doctor and hired this new doctor and hes letting us know everything. There is a lung specialist and an infection specialist working with her to get her better. She went in this morning (christmas morning) to have a trach done, (tube in throat). Sorry for my spelling. She has been sedated since the 7th and has been on a resperator since then as well. The surgery this morning was for the trach, and they removed some of the infected tissue and placed another drainage tube on her left side of her stomach. The infection is controlled and now their main concern is her lungs. All we can do is pray and hope that she pulls through this. They still arent sure if she will make it although they said today that since she got through the surgery so well that it brings new hope. Now we have to wait for the antibiotics to kick in, thats all they can do now. Please keep my mom in your thoughts. I do not know when I can msg again, it might be a couple of days, if I don't its cause nothing has changed. As soon as I can I will message again. A leak was discovered (popped staple) and I had a revisional RNY on 11/13. I also developed pneumonia and spent several weeks in the hospital. I was lucky, I was on antibiotics and never developed any type of infection. I've been out of the hospital since Thanksgiving but I've been on home oxygen 24 hours a day since then and just found out I'll have to be on it for at least another eight weeks. Still, that pales in comparison to what your family is dealing with. God Bless - the AMOS family's power with prayer is strong and wide. Please know that not only I but people all over the country will be praying for your Mom. Be strong and stay positive. Please let us know how she is doing when you can.
