what is the deal about after having gastric bypass and if you ever had to have a tube put down your throat, the reason being is i am going to have a lap tubal next week and someone told me that the doctor will put down a tube down my throat, which really scares me. my ob-gyn knows about my stomach surgery- amanda

HEY AMANDA, I ALSO HAD THE LAP TUBAL, BUT ITS BEEN ALMOST 7 YRS FOR ME, I DONT REMEMBER ANY TUBE IN MY THROAT THOUGH, BUT MAYBE THINGS HAVE CHANGED, I WOULD JUST ASK, AND FIND OUT THE REASONING BEHIND THAT, IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS, AND BY THE WAY THE LAP TUBAL, WHICH THEY CALLED IT THE "BAND-AID TUBAL" WHEN I HAD IT DONE, ITS GREAT, I DIDNT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, AND ITS BEEN GREAT!!!LOL....GOOD LUCK TO YOU, AND KEEP ME POSTED!!!

I imagine its for the ventilator, Amanda. You will have general anesthesia and being put on a ventilator is part of it. There is no reason for you to have a NG tube into your stomach, if that's what you're thinking. They will take the ventilator tube out before you wake up, just like they did when you had your gastric bypass. It will be okay.

Does your gastric bypass doctor know you are having the tubal? Be sure and get his input before you proceed, and by all means- remind the nurses when you get to OR that you just recently had the bypass. Giving too much information is better than not giving enough. By the way, all my folks came from around Gurdon. My maiden name was Wingfield. Take care, Nita.
