Hi Folks, It's wonderful to find a place to post that is in our area. I have looked at Obesityhelp before but never posted. I am learning to get around in it a bit better today and think it will be a good tool now that I am so close to surgery date. I am not nearly as nervous as I feel I should be. Maybe I am just ready. I have been overweight since early school age and enough is enough. I am tired of taking meds for my diabetes, tired of not having the energy to do things that I want or should. So I made the decision, I know it will be a change, but one for the better. I have a great co-worker who had the surgery last year with Dr. Gibbs, she is doing fantastic. I have thought about this surgery for a couple of years, seeing how good she did has really inspired me. Now it's my turn. She is saving clothes for me and that should help a lot. I would love to hear from anyone who has any suggestions, but please no horror stories. You know the kind we all tell pregnant women Ok, seriously, whatever you feel the need to tell me, I can take it, I know we need the good with the bad. Thanks for everyone being here.

Bobbi, I think you will be great! As long as your mind is ready for everything that is going to happen to your body. There will be a lot of changes. Hugs Debbie.

I agree with Debbie. You need to prepare yourself for everything your body will be going through. Also, be prepared mentally to give up food for a while. You'll eventually be able to eat it again, in small amounts, but not like you can now. I read all the time people wishing they had never done this surgery because they weren't prepared for it mentally. As soon as you feel up to it, start walking, walking, and walking some more. I recommend taking a pillow with you for the drive back home. It helps keep the stomach from jiggling so much. If you are hot natured, you might want to take your own fan. A lot of people recommend chapstick, too. Anyway, Good Luck and God Bless!--Shelly

hI: BOBBIE I AM ALSO HAVING MY SURGERY ON DECEMBER 3,03 BY DR. GIBBS AT BAPTIST. MY SURGERY IS SCHDUELED FOR 10.00 AM. I GUESS I WILL SEE YOU THERE. I AM SCARED AND EXCITED AT THE SAME TIME, WITH ME IT IS A MATTER OF WALKING AND NOT WALKING. I AM DOING THIS PRETTY MUCH BY MY SELF, SO IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A SUPPORT GROUP, OR EVEN OTHER PEOPLE TO SHARE WITH. I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR ABOUT A YEAR. MY INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER, BUT I GOT AR REHAB. TO COVER SINCE IT IS MORE OF A MEDICALLY NECESSITY THING. WELL LETS HEAR FROM YOU. BEST OF LUCK LINDA
