Post-op Update

I am now 11 days post-op, and my doctor says I am doing great. My doctor started with a LAP, but he ran in to some complications with vision and with my gall bladder that was packed full of marble sized stones. So he had to do the open on me. I just had the drain tubes and staples removed on Thursday. How long does it take for the open wounds to heal? I stopped taking the pain medication, I still have some pain but it is bearable. Some of the problems I have had since the surgery have been being bloated, (I find it difficult to get all my liquids in because I feel so full) and constipation. My doctor told me to take milk of magnesia and that has seemed to clear that up. Right now, I am feeling the depression that can follow the surgery and I'm trying to fight through it. I have feelings like I won't feel good again. Has anyone gone through these problems? I went out today and got some fresh air and I still cannot do too much because I do get tired after a while. I am making sure to take it easy. I am taking this one day at a time, and I am hopeful to make it through. Take care!

Tandra, I hate to hear they had to do open when you wanted Lap. But at least it is done and over with. Now you just have to heal. So make sure you take it easy. Hugs DebDeb

Hang in there Tandra. It is so normal to feel this depression after WLS. So many people use food for comfort and when that option is no longer available, it can be a difficult time. Try to do the things that make you feel better. Light a candle...read a good book...rent some movies...sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. The weather is so nice this week so take this opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the beginning of fall. Take care of your pain and the sipping and walking will help with your constipation. Remember, the first 3 weeks are the hardest. You can do this!
