Iron Count Information

I was scheduled for Baraiatric Surgery last week, but my iron level is 10 and my surgeon wants it up before operating. He sent me to a Hemotologist who is suggesting a hysterectmy. I would like to hear from others who have had issues with your iron count and how did you solve the problem? How long did it take to get your iron up to an acceptable level?

Deb, I had low iron because of my WL surgery. My surgeon put me on iron pills and it did take several months for me to start feeling normal again. I was feeling really light headed and tired all the time. I go back this month to have blood work done (my one year anniversary is the 20th) and will see if I need to continue taking the iron pills. Do you have heavy periods or something? Is that why they are suggesting a hysterectomy? Just curious. I had a hysterectomy several years ago because of heavy periods. --Shelly
