You're right. The world absolutely does not understand obesity. We are looked down on and discriminated again because of our weight. I had my surgery last August and I can tell you, there is a difference in how I am treated- then vs. now. Good luck to all who are planning the surgery. If I can be of any help, or be your angel, please let me know. Nita

Hi All! I am Cheryl and I live in Hamburg. Just wanted to introduce myself and wish everyone much success through their WL journey. I have my first doctor's appointment on 3 June in Shreveport. My surgeon is scheduled to be Dr. Stephanie Barnes. I MAY get to meet her that day as well. I am not sure yet how they are going to set me up. I am a bit nervous, however-I am excited. I am ready to wake up and know I made it to the "other" side or future side I like to say. And I do mean wake up first ... lol. I have a wee little problem that is bothering me at this point. I smoke. I have read where some doctor's will not do the surgery if you smoke. Seems kinda mean to me. I mean, you should NOT smoke period, but waiting to a VERY emotional time to try to MAKE you quit seems mean. Not to mention, if I could quit, I would have already done that YEARS ago. Fat or NOT. And why do they do a hysterectomy and not make you quit smoking? I know it would be better for you, granted ... But it is not as simple as STOP and you are done. Might as well tell me you got a week to loose 100 pounds!
