Questions about Arkansas

Hello everyone.  My name is Kim.  I live in Dallas, TX for the moment.  My parents bought a house in Hot Springs Village.  They are going to move there permantly when my dad retires next year.  For the moment, they use it as vacation home.

My mother wants me and the kids to move when they do.  Before I even consider that, I have some questions.  I am hoping that maybe someone here can help me.

How is the job market?  I am in the medical field, and I do scheduling/clerical work.

How much WLS support is there in the area?  The Texas Message board is a lot busier than here... so I am hoping that isn't a bad sign.  I know TX is A LOT bigger than Arkansas, so that may be part of the reason.

My parents are my main support system, and I would love to live in the mountains, but I am not willing to live with them forever LOL.  I can not move there if there I can't find a good job so that I can support me and my kids.

Thank You,

Hi Kim,

I'm Susan, a transplant to AR from So California. We love it here in AR, but it is a lot different than a big city, that's for sure. But, the good news is (one of the best reasons to live here) is that there isn't any traffic compared to what you're used to...lol

Yes, most boards are busier than the AR board, but it hasn't always been that way. Once FaceBook got started we started losing members. We have a rather active post op support group that meets once a month at Baptist Hosp in LR. Quite a few "regulars" who have become good friends.

As far as the job market, I think you'll do fine in the field you're in. If you have time, I'd start searching the State of AR job sites,   and the hospital's job listings for the Hot Springs area. I think St Joseph's is the major hospital in Garland County.
There are lots of doctors and medical facilities here in AR. I'd bet you won't have too much trouble, but I'd start looking sooner, rather than later. You never know when something will open up.

Good luck, and keep us posted

Susan

Thank you for the advice.  I will start looking to get an idea of what is out there.  I am not goig to move for at least a year... but I do want to learn more about the area before I make a decision.
