Dr. Wellborn ve Dr. Baker

I currently have a lap band surgery day coming up with Dr. Wellborn.  Although my impression of him has been good personally in my interactions with him up to this point, I have been hearing several other negitive comments regarding his surgical outcomes such as high incidents of infections and other complications.  Some of these comments have come from the nurses that have worked with his patients post-op and give me very strong negitive reactions towards him doing my surgery.  Several of them have recommended not to go to Dr. Wellborn and to check out Dr. Baker specifically.

Although I am not torn about the actual Lap Band procedure, I am conflicted on what I should do.  Seeing that on this website under the MD reviews, both have positive reviews, more comments for Dr. Baker.  There also seem to be quite a few Dr. Baker patients but not too many Dr. Wellborn patients.

I am very anxious to have the surgery done as we're all set up and ready to go but just want to be sure I'm picking the right surgeon.

Anybody have anything that can help me out??

Thanks

I attended seminars for Dr. Wellborn and Dr. Gibbs.  I decided to go with the latter.  Dr. Gibbs' approach seemed less of an assembly line to push out bands.  I felt like I was being rushed through the process with the Wellborn clinic.  I agree that my interactions with the staff were pleasant, however when I mentioned other support groups to attend in the area just to get a feel for all my options it became quite territorial (as in there are they best, etc...).  I am scheduled to see Dr. Gibbs this Thursday to consider the sleeve and I am happy with my choice of clinics.  I don't know if this helps or not :0)

I was going to have the lapband under Doctor Fuller, how ever his office wanted quite a bite of money up front. So i chose to go to Doctor Baker instead who also  wanted money  up front. I got the funds for the surgery  but Dr. Baker wanted me to have a colonscopy  and endoscopy of upper GI. This would mean a longer wait for scheduling of  both exams ( not to mention cost) and finally  the wait for the surgery  itself. The reason given for the need of the exams was due to an issue with another patient who has a pre-existing medical condition that was not discovered until  the lapband procedure. So i am seeking the service of another Doctor along with  making some insurance changes,  I should be getting closer to the day of my surgery. I hope this information helped you out some.

Thanks for the feedback!!  Since this post, I canceled my surgery date with Dr. Wellborn and decided to check into other surgeons.  Just too many red flags waving at me once I started asking, if you know what I mean!  I have since went to seminars with Dr. Baker and Dr. Gibbs.  I liked both very much and actually am considering and actually thinking about doing the bypass!   Although that is a little scary to me, I think that might be the way to go for several reasons for me.  It's just such a hard decision.....i know I don't want to stay the way I am or get even more obese but then again is it worth the risk to see what's on the other side??  I'm at the point that I don't even recognize myself in pictures anymore....that can't honestly be me right??  Not a skinny girl but that's not what I see in the mirror.

As far as Dr. Baker and Dr. Gibbs are concerned, feel comfortable with either.  For me it more so comes down to which one might be able to get me a surgery date in August when I have help at home with my kiddos as they are still in the "picking up" phase to take care of them daily.  Dr. Gibbs' office has not been the most helpful and not communicated much since the seminar.  So far Dr. Baker's office has been way more easier to communicate with and hopefully get things arranged.  So we'll see.....Might be time the take the plunge soon.  Just still a little scary!!
