DS Surgery

Just a curious question-

The debate between RNY and DS is such a strong topic on the OH website.  At this point, I don't think that I would go the DS route, but it seems that during my research I have gotten SO MANY questions from others as to why I don't consider DS instead of RNY.  Sadly- insurance is the main reason.  Does Arkansas even have any doctors that perform the DS surgery (to anyone's knowledge)?

I know for sure that Gibbs, Fuller and Baker do not do DS. They all consider it too radical.

The RNY vs. DS fight has been an on going situation on OH, and frankly, it has kept me away from the main board for years. Too much drama and arguing which keeps people from getting good, unbiased info.

Just my 2 cents.

There aren't any DS docs in AR as far as I know. I'm planning to get the DS and am going to Nashville to meet with Dr. Hugh Houston on Friday. I waited for open enrollment so I could get my husband's insurance (Anthem BCBS of KY) as secondary because my my primary (AR BCBS) pays all of $4k on any WLS. Insurance. pfffft. Oh and Dr. Houston is in-network for my husband's insurance, which is a very good thing. haha

I want the DS because I think it's the best for me, which is how I think most of us getting WLS make our choices. All the hoorah on the main board wears me out, so I don't go there much either. I have found several folks on the DS board who are happy to answer questions without the whole bully you into getting a DS routine. PMs are usually good too - no chance of others putting their two cents in. ;-)

Best wishes on your WLS journey!
