Post-Op Update!

Alright Ladies and Gents, This is my first day back at work after my surgery last Wednesday.  I'm doing pretty good.  Weighed myself again and I've lost another 5 pounds since last week.  Feeling pretty excited about this whole thing and I'm anxious to start my walking.

It's a little difficult for me to comply with the "Walk every 40 minutes" requirement.  I can physically do it (albeit my incisions burn and my whole stomach feels like it's on fire when I do!) It's just tough to steal away from my desk.  I'm trying to be good, though!

So, for those of you who had a laproscopic procedure... did anyone tell you when it was okay to take off the dressings from your incisions?  Are we supposed to leave those alone and just let them fall off?  I think I might just call Dr. Bakers office later this afternoon and see about it.  I forgot to ask when I was discharging from the hospital and it doesn't say anything about it on my discharge instructions!

Thank you ladies for all the well wishes last week.  Made my day!

Wow.....for more than one reason!  First, you're back to work already?  Wow, ANOTHER 5 lbs??  And lastly, WOW, really???? No instructions on your sheet?

When do you see Baker again?  Are the dressings just Steri Strips, or actual gauze dressings?  Are you able to shower?

IF they are steri strips, then they will come off on their own. At least the ones I've had from my (numerous) surgeries have. Just to be sure, I'd call Addie.

The walking every 40 minutes has me perplexed, too. I can see the necessity of walking every 40 minutes right after surgery, but even now?  Another question for Addie.

I see Dr. Baker again on Dec. 8th after I go to Baptist again at 5:30 AM and get my filter taken out.

I spoke to Addie earlier and she said that the kind of bandage I had on came off in 7 to 10 days.  I'm not sure if they're steri strips or not...  They're under this big plastic shield thing and it looks like gauze to me?  Who knows.  Addie seemed thrown that no one told me about the dressings, too.

Yeah, another 5 pounds... I got really dehydrated in the hospital (ie: they refused to give me fluids for 6 hours after my barium swallow until I threatened a nurse to give me apple juice or fear my wrath, literally)  SO I have no idea if it's from me having such little fluid in me, or if it's from actual weight loss...  We'll see in this next week.  I was really suprised to get on the scale and see how much I had lost just within this last month.  If I figure out what I did, I'll share the secret?

Thanks for your wow-ed comments, Susan.  Made me feel great!
