I am hoping to have surgery with Dr. John Baker. I am nervous about surgery in general.
This is the year for me though. I started with going to my PCP in December with knots on my hands. He sent me to a hand surgeon who sent me to a Rheumatologist. She sent me to the sleep study center who sent me to Baptist for a sleep deprived EEG...who because of my abnormal EEG is sending me to an Epileptologist who is also a neurosurgeon. In the meantime I went for my yearly mammogram and they sent me to a breast surgeon. Who did several tests including a biopsy. Well for now I have fibrocystic breast disease.
So I feel like I have been through the ringer. Since December I have been diagnosed with asthma, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, heel spurs, fibroystic breast disease. obstructive sleep apnea, and in October probably epilepsy...so I gotta do something about the weight.
I went to Dr. John Baker seminar and really like him. He happened to be having one after one of my two sleep studies.
I am planning to be at the Walk from Obesity and hope to meet you all.
My name is Brenda and I am 54 years old and need to lose at least 100 pounds. I have been reading about all of you and ya;ll seem to be a great group of folks.
Thanks for listening.....Brenda
This is a great bunch of folks here. They can answer just about any question you have and believe me, there have been some weird questions on here. Anytime you need support this is the place to come. Dr. Baker is my doctor and he is great. He is strict and wants you to follow his rules. But he does that for your own good. So between now and when you do have surgery be sure to do your homework. Read all you can about weight loss surgery and what comes after. This website is a treasure trove of information. So take advanatage of it.
I will be at the walk in a couple of weeks and so will people from this webstite. We are a freindly bunch. Good luck with your journey and remember we are here anytime you need us.

Thanks for the luck and reminding me that is a journey after all....Brenda
Come on in and make yourself at home! I, too, use Dr. Baker and love him!! I'm so glad my PCP referred me to him. It has definitely been a life changing experience. I just posted a copy of my old and new drivers license pictures on my page here... I actually LOVE my new picture and have been flashing it around...giggling. Texting it to friends and family as well.
I don't make many of the meetings due to working evenings, and I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to make the walk(again, work) but I love the forum here, and I'm sure you will as well.
Welcome to our board Brenda, I am Tammy.....8yrs post op.....not native to Ar but live here...close to Memphis tho...not L Rock.
I am a personal trainer wanna be....I am taking fitness and nutrition classes right now before I go after the big dog classes thats cost an arm and a leg....thats where you get the major certification.......maybe some day I can train someone....but I am more a helper......I dont know if I could charge anyone for my services. I spent my whole hour of workout time helping a woman who weighed about 300 pounds...she did not know anything about the gym and the staff was too busy so I gave up my scheduled hour of training to help her....thats the mother hen in me....I am only 39...so I am a young hen....
I am sorry to hear about the tests and so on you have been through.....guess it is better to be safe than sorry. I had to have a mammo 3 yrs ago...I have a cyst on my left breast, when I got my implants my plastic surgeon said everything was fine in there....yes I bought new boobies....they are sooooo cool
I am having some ups and downs with my weight loss. I did do great for 3 yrs then started experiencing re-gain from poor eating habits and not following the rules. I am trying to get it off and it is much harder this time around. So my advice to everyone.....follow your rules they were put in place for a reason!!!!
I too will be at the walk.....I am the team Capt this year....Susan was last year....Maybe cute lil Courtney will be next year.
Susan is off with the over 50 ladies on a trip to Dallas.....I offered her my male stripper freinds but she declined.....lol. Susan is the one we all turn to and look forward to seeing.....she is a great person and kind heart. I love her dearly....she even let me spend the night at her house and did not know me !!!!!
Steve is our man of the group....he gets tortured with boobie talk and other female talk......lol....we love Steve...
everyone else here will introduce themselves eventaully.....alot of busy people here with work and school. Please do not hesitate to ask anyone a question. We are all here for the same reason......
you will be come family too....dont be shy!!!!
I will see you at the walk.......have you already registered? We have a team....TEAM OHAR, you can join it if you have not already signed up.
Have a wonderful weekend.....
hugs

I am not doing so good in this part of my journey...9 yrs later. :-(
I just got back from the houseboat (DeGray) and saw your post. I love Dr. Baker, and as the others will tell you, he's strict, but really good. Do your homework and do your part. My weight loss is slow in my eyes, but Dr. Baker seems really happy with me. The staff at his office is great as well.
I know you feel like you've been through the ringer and there are more tests to come for sure when you do have surgery. With all of the issues that you have, it sounds like wl surgery would be very helpful for you to get that weight off. Excercise is a must (I try to EVERY day).
I will be at the walk too, so see ya there!!

Dr. Baker said to start now trying to lose the weight. My insurance may make me try for 6 months on a weight loss plan first. So I am doing everything I know to do.
Thanks for replying. Looking forward to seeing you at the walk. Brenda
