Hey all, got my kids back to school

Just popping in for a minute to say HI!!!  I've missed you all.

Got all the kids shipped off today, they would rather have stayed home in bed I'm sure.  Back to the grind... my oldest daughter and I are feeling it the worst, I think.  Neither of us is a morning person.  I'm yawning my head off.  Maybe more coffee will do the trick.

Things are okay otherwise.  Money's tight, but that's not new.  I've started having some minor panic attacks, and my kind GP gave me something to calm me down.  I think it's not as helpful as running, but it's been too hot to run (and did I mention I'm not a morning person?).

I ran 9.4 miles a couple weeks ago.  It felt pretty good, but around mile 8 I started to feel woozy.  I should have stopped and walked but I was already halfway around the lake so I thought I could just finish.  It wasn't terribly hot, but the humidity (90%) exacerbated things.  I got a little scared on the short drive home and jumped straight in a cool tub when I got in the house.  I felt like I had the flu for two days... not fun.  Sooo, I haven't been out to run very much since then.  I'm a little gunshy. ;-)

In other whiny news, my right knee has been a little bit achy.  It pops quite a bit, has since before surgery.  Running is brining it to the forefront, so I've got an appointment with Dr. Martin in a few weeks.  Our insurance here at work is going to get jacked up next year because of "budget cuts" so I better get it taken care of now if there's an issue.

I hope you are all doing well! Sybul, you look great... Susan, miss you!  Steve, any news on the job?  I ran into Dian at Kroger a couple weeks ago and she said you might be hearing something?  Helloooo to the rest of you wonderful folks and big hugs.

hi......I want to run but I feel terribly awkward and uncooridinated

my boobs bounce....need a better bra.....dr's orders.....no bounce for implants and they should remain perky....sorry STEVE....tmi

how long you been running???? are you strictly outdoors or on a treadmill???

I am asking just because I want to work up the nerve and start.

My issue is my sugar drops during my workouts......like into the 30's......and usually my blood pressure does too......

I carry glucose tabs in my gym bag. I guess I would have to buy a fanny pack if I started running.

My son starts school Wednesday......11th grade. He just got home last night after being up in Northern Illinois with his dad and grands since May.

ok...well I gotta get going......last min things before wednesday....like buy new shoes for the boy!

YAY for running!

I still feel somewhat awkward, but not as bad as I did in the beginning.  I just smile and fake it now. ;)

I started running in January.  Actually, it was more of a feeble jog, but it eventually got me there.  My pace is still terribly slow but I think the distance is my motivating factor.  I did a program called couch-to-5k on coolrunning.com -- it's designed to literally take you from the couch to running a 5k in 12 weeks.  It might be a little too basic for you if you have an exercise background, but you could always start further into the program.  Another good resource is www.halhigdon.com.  I've been running pretty exclusively outside; the fresh air and scenery is really good for me mentally.  A treadmill is too boring, IMO, but with this weather, I'm becoming desperate!

There's a store in Conway, Sporty Runner, that sells these bands that are supposedly miracle workers when it comes to holding down the girls.  I can't remember exactly what they're called, but they were developed by a woman in Hot Springs and are marketed primarily at all the marathon expos around the country now.  BUT -- you can find them at Sporty Runner. ;)

My blood sugar issues aren't quite as dramatic as yours, though I definitely feel it after 30-45 minutes.  I make sure my loop takes me past my water bottle at least once per mile and I keep a stash of those sports gels, too.  If I run longer than 30 minutes I'll use one about every 30 minutes based on my fatigue level.  I always eat a banana ~30 min before I run and always another after I finish, and then something a little more substantial with protein soon after that.  I don't carry a fanny pack, just put my bottle and gels behind the car tire and run past it every so. often.  I'm scared to buy one that I'll hate, but I can tell I need to find some fuel belt for runs that go any longer than what I've been doing.

Good luck with school starting!  It was a good day for us.

Wow....you've got to be more careful with this heat and running. That's a little scary, my dear!  I'd just take it easy (or go out earlier.....yeah, right****il the weather cools down a bit. And, take care of that knee, too. Do you know this Dr Martin? If you need another doc's name, let me know. I'm an Ortho expert....:(

Glad the kiddos are back in school. Lots to be said for routine, huh?

So, when do we get to have a cuppa together???

Yup, in retrospect I was a damn fool for trying that.  I'd like to think I'll go out earlier!  I set my alarm today and everything and slept right on through it... I'll give it an honest effort tomorrow AM.  That means I better shut 'er down soon!

I would love to get together.  We need to pick a date and make it happen.  Have you heard from Steve?  He's been pretty quiet, too.

Who's your pick for Ortho, out of curiosity?  Dr. Martin used to be in Martin, Bowen, & Hefley, but apparently he broke off from them.  My appointment isn't until next month, so I have time to hunt around.  The knee is just a minor issue... just trying to anticipate any bigger problems that may emerge.  The way it pops it makes me think it's a tracking thing that'll eventually wear down my cartilage.  That would suck!

In the meantime, I'll hide out in the A****il I become one of you crazy morning people.  What's your secret? ;)

My secret for getting up early? I'm old. Period, end of report. Old people apparently require less sleep. If that is indeed the case, my husband who is four years younger than me is lying about his age because he's one of those freaks of nature who only require about 4-5 hrs a night. He got up at 3:30 today....me? 4:30. I have to wor****il 8:00 tonight....gonna be a LONG ASSED day!!!

As far as an ortho doc....Larry Nguyen( pronounced Win) at OrthoArkansas. I wouldn't be walking if it weren't for him. Seriously.

A get together would be awesome. I have to work late every night this week, so let's try for next week?

We'll put it out there and see what sticks. Let's bombard Steve with posts and PM. Gotta get that man back on here!
