Oh no.....my fish have gone to the great beyond

They say "no good deed goes unpunished", or how about "what can go wrong, will".  Val and I were feeling pretty good about finally cleaning the little pond that Eddie and I dug out and put together.  We put the two fish we had in a container and pumped the whole thing out.  I even got into the hole and scrubbed at the sides and bottom to get as much of the built up grime and stuff out and hosed it down.  We didn't use any soap or chemicals or anything.  I guess we didn't get enough chlor-out in the water or something.  When we got home yesterday they were both dead.  Our poor koi was about 2 years old.  I know it sounds silly but we were pretty attached to them.  I guess I need to read up on how to do it right for the next time.  We have a new pup that is part Great Pyrennese and part lab and they had survived him constantly jumping in there to cool of.  On a lighter note, it sure is nice to have Eddie's door back up to his bedroom.  I didn't have to listen to any rap music or video games emanating from his room all night, lol.  All that's left is to put up a few pieces of trim in the hall and front bathroom and then we can move on to the kitchen....NOT!  Actually we do plan on doing the kitchen next but I need to save up for new appliances first.  I want a gas stove to replace the electric one we have now and our dishwasher has seen better days.  I'm also wanting a new refrigerator.  One with the freezer on the bottom would be nice.  The side-by-side is just too narrow on the freezer side.  I was looking at the prices of appliances at Lowe's the other day and I can't believe how expensive everything is.  I guess I'll have to look up some friends that work at Whirlpool, lol.  I'm stuck at 148 lbs.  I keep fluctuating between 148-150.  I guess it's time to get serious about that last 25 lbs if I ever want to see them go away.  Oh well, how's life treating everyone else?  I'm looking forward to the new school year.  Going to go shopping for new school clothes next week if I can corral Eddie long enough to go with me.  He'll be a junior this year.  I can't believe how fast he is growing up.  I can still remember the first time I saw him when he was 6 weeks old.  I had just come home from having a hysterectomy and he and I just lay around together for a few days while his mom and dad went on a trip to Houston together.  Little did we know at the time that 16 years later we would still be hanging out together every day.  Got to go fix Val some salt pork and biscuits.  He likes them with mustard on it.  You can sure tell he's a country boy, lol.  Have a good day.

So sorry, Sybul!  I kind of worried when you said you cleaned and scrubbed like you did. We used to have aquariums and you always had to leave some of the "gunk" around or the balance got all messed up and they'd die.

When we moved here we bought a new refrigerator and I swore, SWORE I'd get the one I wanted, freezer on the bottom, french doors....well, Gary talked me out of it and I'm so sorry I didn't get what I wanted when I had the money to do it. Seems silly to want some fancy fridge, but I do!

I thought the two lbs I gained was because of the stupid popcorn I ate at the movie the other day, but it's still here, so I don't know. I'll have to go back and look at my intake over the last week and see what's up.

Okay, off and running. You have a great day!

Susan

You're right about cleaning out the whole thing.  I knew that about aquariums and thought about it then decided naw, you can't kill a goldfish.  They can take anything... or so we thought.

Sorry about your fish.  I used to keep fish too.

Once I had some catfish that my neighbor gave me out of his pond and I raised them until they got to big for the tank and transferred them to a new pond.

We're thinking about putting a catfish in it next time to help keep it cleaner.

Hey Sybul,
Sorry bout your fish, we used to havea  35 gallon aquarium and we had 21 gold fish in it for Mikes granma to watch.  We went to town one day and came hom and they were dying, and before night fall they were all dead.  She was 97, and she accused me of killing them so I could get some "stupid looking" fish!!! LOL  Sometimes they get things in their head and you cant change them.

When Mike and I built our house here, we  bought new appliances, and we got a stainless steel side by side, (big one) and I was tickled to death.  Never dreamed he would spend that much on a fridge, b/c he is very frugal, but he wanted me to have what I wanted.  So I agree, get what you want, its a small thing to some, but I do love my fridge.  I keep it polished and shined up.  Three years later Im still proud of it.

Good luck w/the school clothes shopping, I never liked going w/my mom, but you and Eddie may be fine.  Mom hated it and she made it miserable for us.

Well, Im back to propping the ole leg up, just wanted to check in and chime in.  Miss you guys, will be back more when the leg gets well, or fixed or something.

You'd better keep that leg up if you ever want it to heal.  Eddie is not into shopping.  I need him to try on some jeans though.  He lost some weight this summer and he wears his baggy.  Several times in the last week or so when he stood up they fell down around his ankles.  We've been laughing our butts off at him.  I'm getting him a new belt too, lol.  You need to post while you're resting your leg to entertain us.  You must have lots of funny stories stories to tell with your horses.  My sister's was a riot.  We miss you too but we do want to see you get better soon.
