Anyone use Dr. John Baker for their DS?

x-posted in the DS forum.

Dr. Baker isn't listed on dsfacts.com or duodenalswitch.com but his website says he does these procedures:

1. Roux En Y Gastric Bypass

2. Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding

3. Duodenal Switch/Biliopancreatic Diversion

4. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

He is my surgeon of preference and I'm looking for info. Also I'm strongly leaning toward the DS rather than the RnY for all the reasons the DSers list. I'm 49 with a BMI of 63 and have had all the yoyo-ing I can enjoy for this and three other lifetimes. I mean, if I go so far as to have my entrails rearranged to lose weight, I don't want it back, yanno? Thanks!

I'm pretty certain he does not do DS or BPD, but that could have changed in the last year.  You might want to call the office to find out for sure.  I've had such great success with my RNY that I'm glad I didn't go the route of a BPD -- especially since my 1 year labs came back showing mild signs of malabsorption syndrome, anyway (>AST, ALT & PTH).

Good luck!

You have the Guru performing your surgery.  Christi, Erica and Becky helped me a whole lot as I prepared myself for the procedure.

Dr. Baker doing your surgery is like winning the mega million lottery.  I started out with 307 and I now weight 145.  My surgery was done Febuary 2006.

Keep in mind that you must change your eating habits, sugar, sodas, foods that contain hydrogenated fats/oil is no longer an option.

I was so happy about  my weight loss and started eating the above foods.  I would get so sick behind, have sweats and dumping.  There were times I would have to lay down after eating something I shouldn't.

Eventually I got the picture and the 25 pounds I gain eating crazy foods, I was able to lose by removing those items from my diet plan.

Stay focused, keep positive people around you at all times.  I'm excited about your new future and congratulations on deciding to take care of you.

My excercise included walking and now I weight train.  It was very hard work but I would not change anything about my body.

It was really nice to trade my jello jigglers bottom to a tight firm bottom.  My bottom is that of an 18 year old and for the first time in my life I have a six pack.  Working out was not easy but I  wanted to start living and this procedure gave me a life that I thought I could never have.

Good Luck

Dr. Baker is one of the best.

He did my RnY in 2002, back then he didn't do DS.

Good Luck!

I don't think he does them at all. He's probably who I'm going to go with anyway. Thanks for responding!!

You have selected the best surgeon in the state and people from states away have come here just to use him.

But he does not do the DS.  (He has FIXED people who have had their intestined shortened too much and needed it lengthened due to excessive malabsorption.  In fact, he is who most surgeons in the state and even some surrounding states have sent their "booboos" to to get fixed.  He'll say that this is because he has had "luck" with revisions - but I don't think LUCK has anything to do with it - I just think it's because he's so great!  So he may have FIXED a DS before.  But he has not, to my knowledge DONE a DS before.)
