RNY Surgery 06/30/09

Hi forum!  I just had laproscopic RNY gastric bypass surgery on June 30, 3009.  I was scared and thought about cancelling the surgery when my dad almost died due to low blood sugar.  He has a pacemaker and is a diabetic.  This confirmed for me that I was making the right decision.

I have been home now for two days and I am having a hard time with the meal replacements sipping.  I have been walking and haven't had to take pain medication yet.  I just want friends to share information with and for any support I can offer and visa versa.

My pre-op weight was 301.5 and weight when I checked in for surgery on 6/25/09 was 293.5.

My surgeon is Dr. John Roller, rollerweightloss.com

Thanks for listening,
Leona*

Hi Leona!  Congratulations on taking that big first step on your journey to the new you.  Dr. Roller was my surgeon too.  Are you trying to do the 1 ounce every 15 min thing?  I couldn't keep up with that and was having a hard time.  I asked about it and they told me that  we didn't have to do it that way, they just wanted us to to make sure we would at least get in the minimum.  Dr. Roller  assured me I could drink my liquids any way I could tolerate them and they wouldn't stretch or hurt my pouch.  What worked for me was to pour up my water for the day and set out my proteih drinks for the day and start sipping.  It was easier for me to drink everything room temp. for the first week or so.  Everybody is different with how they tolerate the temp. of their liquids at first.  Anyway, I would just drink and would get more liquids down that way.  If you have any questions, be sure to go to Dr. Rollers web site to the RNY forum.  You can even ask Dr. Roller, Wendy, Anne or any of the staff a question and they will post back really quickly.  If you call the office, always press "0" when you are listening to the message to take you right to the receptionist otherwise the options are to leave a message if they don't answer.  The staff at Dr. Rollers office are all wonderful.  This site is great too.  There are a lot of people on here that are very knowledgeable and kind.  Welcome aboard.

Thank you Sybul.  It is nice to have any suggestions.   I will give your suggestions a try and if I still have trouble I will call Wendy or Anne.  I believe if my home scale is correct, I have lost 20.5 lbs since June 25--but it may be wrong. I will only post my loss with what Dr. Roller's scales show.  Thank you again.

I am going to work on my ticker -like yours-that is neat!

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if your scales are right.  I would lose 2 - 21/2 lbs. a day after surgery and that went on for months!  I'm telling you, you'll be amazed at how fast it slides off if you watch your intake and keep moving.  As far as the ticker, after you get it made, just right click on the ticker itself and copy/paste it here to where you set it up.  Congratulations again.

Hi Leona,

Congratulations and welcome!!!

You're doing a great job so far, and if you haven't taken any pain meds yet, chances are you won't need to. That's VERY good!

Yep, keep up that walking and sippin' and you'll be just fine.

Take care

Susan
