Dr's report #1

Hi guys,

No news on the blood work for the cramping, but I'm just home from the bone density test. Damn, I've never been any good at tests, and evidently didn't "bone" up enough before this one, because I got a D-!  I have a -2.3 on my density, -2.5 is osteoporsis, so I'm in the osteopenia stage, and just a gnats wing from full blown osteoporisis.

I try really hard to do what I'm supposed to do and to set a good example for all of you who are following me down this road we share, but I guess I'm now the example of what happens when you DON'T follow all the rules. The last Year or so I've been rather hit and miss with my calcium, or does that state the obvious? I've been so good about my other supplements, but I just don't seem to remember to get the calcium in. Wendy #1 had the best idea to take them when I start drinking my water after a meal, which is good and sound advice, but have I followed it?  NO!

So, here I am, waiting for the doctor to review the tests and tell me what manner of nastiness I can take. Fosimax is the one the x-ray tech said they most often prescribe, but according to their website it can cause stomach trouble. I'm wondering if that means I shouldn't take it?? Damn again.

We'll see....stay tuned for part #2.  I'm gonna go crawl under a rock.

Oh Susan, I am so sorry to hear that. Hopefully the cure won't be too bad. Maybe there will be one that will work for you.
I try hard to get my calcium in everyday. BECAUSE-----the cancer drug they changed me to back in the fall is extremely hard on your bones. So I sure don't need any more problems than I already have.  But, I have had kidney stones before, so I sure hope all that calcuim doesn't give me any more of them. Dadgum....them there stones really hurt.
So, I will be thinking of you and wishing the best for you.

On another note. My sister had her partial knee replacement surgery today. She is doing really well. Her husband in staying tonight with her and I am going to go stay tomorrow night with her. She is at the Arkansas Surgery Hospital that is in Maumelle, down there on Northshore Dr. off of Crystal HIll Road. So doesn't that sound like fun. I will have my laptop with me and I will try to check in tomorrow evening sometime.
You take care now.

Hey Ann,

Thanks for the kind words. It will be alright. Always is, so I don't know why I worry so.

I'm so glad your sister came through her surgery okay. She's lucky to have someone stay with her.

I have to work all day tomorrow, so I'll check to see if you've updated us in the evening.

Well I just got my 2 year labs back today, did them last Fri.  and all is well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just wondering and forgot to ask the doctor if all the vitamins I am taking might have had some cause of the kidney stone back in Jan or not?

Also I found out I have a normal TSH level 1.38 but a huge lump on my thyroid, was supposed to get a thyroid ultrasound this a.m. but opted to cancel and talk to my doctor some more tomorrow and then go from there, my mom had thyroid cancer and hers removed, several family members with thyroid disease so surgeon said more than likely it is my turn, but you know what I am just sick sick sick of doctors offices, illnesses and lab work and I need a break!

Good Job AmyBeth!!!!

Keep up the plan, if what you're doing is working, don't change it. Let us know about the thyroid thing. I know it's a worry and bother, but you must take care of yourself, okay????

Hugs to ya

I know about the calcium thing.  Having to take it several times a day is the hard part.  I always remember the morning and evening doses but the noon dose usually doesn't get taken till on my way home when I remember then I'm taking another dose usually 2-3 hrs later.  I hope that's long enough where I'll get the benefit of it.  I was taking the bariatric advantage cinnamon calcium but I got where I couldn't stand the taste of the cinnamon a minute longer so I switched back to the caplets.

Hey Sybul,

Until you got sick of the cinnamon, did they taste okay? I love cinnamon. There isn't a cinnamon gum or candy that's "cimmamony" enough for me. I ordered the Bariatric Advantage new chewy bites calcium, which are supposed to be like the old Citrical Creamy Bites, but they haven't gotten here. I'm thinking about getting the cinnamon ones, and between the two(since I thought the creamy bites were like a treat) I might get in what I need.

I need to ask Wendy #1 about the length of time between doses. I think it's two hours.
