Well I had my surgery on March 25th. Thank God for OH. I was prepared and ready for anything. Everything went great ( knock on wood) and still doing good. I am still really sore and gassy but I know that will bet better. I just cant wait for a week to get here and feel better. I dont really know if I am getting full or not because of the pain and gas its hard to tell. Just eating on time and amounts they told me to. Sipping in between. Really scared about started each new stage of eating. I want to do the right things. Baptist Hospital was great, the nurses on the Bariatric Floor were wonderful. Dr Gibbs and his staff were great. Thank you to everyone.

Welcome home!  I too came home today after my surgery on the 25th!

I'm not so sure I'm sore as much as I can feel my weight pulling on the staples when I stand however once I'm up it seems ok.  The gas will pass... oh so slowly I was warned and so far they were right!

Its strange but I feel a little scared to go to the next step in eating too.  I refused jello for 2 days because I was worried something would happen - especially after reading all about what "could" happen.

Congratulations!!!  We're now on the bench!

Welcome home!!!  I am so glad things went well and it sounds like you are starting out great!

Don't worry about not "getting full".  Remember you are not SUPPOSED to eat until you feel "full".  That is one of the most common mistakes that post-ops make (source: OH Magazine March 2008 if memory serves).  If you eat until you "feel full", you have eaten enough volume to fill your pouch to or past capacity.  That leads to problems long-term because, over time, it takes more and more volume to achieve that "full" feeling.  So always eat to your prescribed volume and no more.

If you feel "full" or uncomfortable or whatever, it is always okay to stop BEFORE you eat to your prescribed volume of intake.  But if you don't achieve some physical feeling of "full", don't eat PAST/OVER your prescribed volume of intake trying to get that feeling.  (Because whether you have that feeling or not, once you have reached your prescribed volume, you've had enough.)

So PLEASE don't worry that you don't "feel" full when you finish eating.  Eating until we "feel" a certain way or a certain something is what got most of us to the ponit of needing WLS.

So you are doing FINE without that "feeling" of "fullness".  Don't let its absence worry you!  You are on the right track!!!

Good luck and welcome to the loser's bench!!!

welcome home! Im happy to hear your doing well. About the full thing, I just eat the amounts that they tell me to, and it has been going ok.  I dont go and get more food because i get this pain and tightness  in my pouch and it dont feel to good, so that tells me Im full and donrt need anymore food. I am  on the soft food diet now, and have been for a week now, and I was very scared to move to that from the full liquid diet  also. if you just take it slow, and chew chew chew, you will do well. I learned quickly how to eat, because my dad told me...

He told me to EAT SLOW, CHEW CHEW CHEW, AND  PUT MY FORK DOWN AFTER EACH BITE!!!! That all helps you to feel full he told me....

Welcome to the loosers bench! Sounds like you are doing just fine! Remember to sip, sip, sip, and the walking will help with the gas! It has been almost 2 years for me but boy do I remember the transition from liquid to soft food! I worried about everything! You will find lots of information in the book Dr. Gibbs gave you. I still refer to it from time to time. Congrats again, you are going to do great!
Gentle huggs,
RhondaT

Congratulations!!
Just take your time in getting well. Your body has been through a major change and it is trying to get use to the new status. Remember to not overdo it. Take those tiny sips and thoroughly chew your food. This will come in handy in the future. Trust me. Stick to the plan your doctor set for you and you will do great.
Take care,

Ann
