Isn't constipation wonderful? not. It's quite the topic of discussion around most post-WLSers. Magnesium Citrate is a clear liquid laxative that is pretty safe for us. It doesn't taste so great, but it WILL clean you out! That's what Dr. Roller's patients take the day before surgery. It works without all of the stomach cramping.

LOL =) Oh yes! It makes me feel welcomed in to the WLS Family... Yeah, I know its a widespread topic on here, thats why I didnt want to put a new topic on here about it because people would probably get frustrated with me... I did a magnesium citrate before surgery to clean me out too, and UGH it tasted so nasty..But I know it will help me, and I may have to do it again, but I am just scared that I will have to do it for the rest of my life... im always struggling with it... It stinks...

This will get better. Right now you're eating mostly protein(hopefully) and very little fiber. You're not on any pain meds now, are you? They are extremely constipating!

My doctor told me to buy Miralax...no taste, no YUCK of the mag citrate(and it's pretty potent stuff).  Personally, I'd go with the Miralax before the Mag...really, it's more gentle, and sure tastes better. Don't try to put it into a protein drink, though, it clumps up horribly.

Susan,
Thanks for telling me that. I was worried it was going to stick with me all throughout my journey. I am eating as much protein as I can get in. No.  I havent had any pain meds since the second day I was home from the hospital. we were debating between Benefiber and MiraLax, and dad bought Benefiber and so far its not doing anything, so I will try MiraLax. Yeah, I wasnt going to do the Mag again. Ok, Thanks for your advice and help.

Love

Glad you're doing well!

My mom had bad gas problems immediately post-op (they went away after the first month).

Dr. Baker had her take Miralax and it totally worked for her.  (Note:  Don't do ANYTHING like that long-term.  You don't want to get laxative dependnt!)

It will get better when you can add more fiber to your diet naturally (fruit, vegetables, etc).  I have apples dipped in PB2 & cocoa roasted almonds for breakfast most mornings.  About an hour later, I have a bowel movement.  If I miss my fruit and have a protein bar or something instead... no bowel movement.  It really does make a difference (at least for me).

Good luck!
