Hello friends!!!

Im home and doing much better as of this morning.... I was having troubles doing the deep breathing and coughing, and when I was in the hospital got a fever... (Bad me) I know now.... But now that Im over the pain of deep breathing and coughing, something new decided to come....SNEEZING!!!   It hurts so bad.... worse then the coughing.... What causes this?? do I just put a pilow on my stomach and brace myself like with the coughing, or is there something else I could do???? oh, and s far as water intake, im scared to drink it in fear it will stretch my pouch... if I sip it throughout the day, should I be ok??

Love yah all, and thanks for the support!!! You all are awesome....

Wow - I'm sorry you're having that sneezing.  I had non-stop hiccups post-op - SO I HAVE LITERALLY FELT YOUR PAIN.  You do NOT need hiccups or sneezing when your tummy muscles are so sore.  (Noone understands what I mean by saying it feels like you have done a zillion sit-ups until they have actually HAD the surgery.  So sore! Ouch!)

I totally WOULD recommend "bracing yourself" before a sneeze by putting the pillow on your tummy.  That's what I did with my hiccups as best I could.  The GOOD thing about that is that it only lasts a week or so (it gets better as the soreness gets better, just like you really HAD done a zillion sit-ups - it takes a few days).

As far as the water goes, Dr. Baker's post-op papers say (at least they did when I had my surgery and got them) to do 3 - 4 ounces of water per hour only.  You really need to try to shoot for 48 ounces in a day.

Assuming you sleep for 8 hours and are on total liquids now (which you should be for the 1st 6 days post-op if Dr. Baker's plan is still the same as it was when I had my surgery), then...
24 hours in a day - 8 hours sleeping = 16 hours remaining
3 ounces x 16 hours in a day = 48 ounces in a day
4 ounces x 16 hours in a day = 64 ounces in a day

So while you are on liquids only, you have just enough waking hours in your day to get in 48 ounces if you stick to 3 ounces per hour (that 3 - 1/8 measuring cups full of water an hour which is NOT too much - so don't worry).  (If you are sleeping MORE than 8 hours during a day or napping/pausing from drinking any during the day, you'll have to drink 4 - 1/8 measuring cups full of water an hour to make up for lost time).

If you are worried about drinking too fast, set a timer for 15 - 20 minutes (or just always pay attention to what time it is if you can do it without the timer).  Be sure to drink 1/8 cup of water every 15 - 20 minutes.  If you finishing BEFORE the 15 - 20 minutes is up, wait for the next 15 - 20 minutes to start before starting on the NEXT 1/8 cup of water and so on.

1/8 cup is only 2 tbsp, so it is definately not too much.  I know it may FEEL like too much now, but that is just the sensitivity and swelling going on in there.  3 - 4 ounces an hour is what you should be taking in and you can totally do it!

In fact, you really need to get used to doing it, because on day 7 you will start soft foods ("meals") which means you will have to STOP drinking for 30 minutes before and not drink again until 1 - 1.5 hours after the "meals".  So that will cut your drinking time during the day.  You'll definately need to be doing 4 ounces per hour by then, even if you start out only doing 3 an hour.

I know it is so hard to get anything in at first and it's scary.  But you can TOTALLY do it - I know you can!!!

Thanks Wendy... It really does hurt. And I didnt undertsnad when I was pre-op, but I fully understand now! Oh I understand you. My tummy feels like its had a complete 2-3 hour workout! hahaha

yes, I have been doing that, and it seems to help a little, but I dont think Im going to get away from the pain at all. Its so so painful.. Oh man, I haven't had hiccups yet, but Dr. Baker said they will probably come sooner or later. Healways came and visisted me in my room, and checked my pulse, and asked me if I was having muscle spasms... I havent had a y yet, although my leg started cramping today so I walked 10 minutes on the treadmill, and will do 10 more minutes next hour and til tonight. I dont need any blood clots thats for sure. Ive found myself wvwn when Im sleeping to be waking up and moving my  legs... LOL....

You are correct on the water intake. And a quart of that has to be 100% juicy juice diluted.... half water, half  juice.... 48 OZ. Sound impossible to me to do right now... but, becauase of how you have mapped things out for me on sleepping and such, I KNOW I can do it... I have gone this far and plan on doing things the right way!!! So thank you very much for helping me!!! Have I told you your AWESOME!!!

I'm glad I could help!

I forgot about that 1/2 diluted juicy juice requirement.  They didn't have that when I had my surgery - but I know it was added before my mom had hers - because now that I think about it, she had to do some diluted juicy juice too.

You're doing great!!!
