I have a question
I am on the full liquid portion of my post-op diet. I am supposed to be on it for two weeks, then I move to the soft food stage.
What I don't understand fully is how much I should be eating? If I make a protien drink it's 8 oz and that is impossible for me to drink in a setting. So, I've been drinking it in 1/8c settings over an hour or so. Is that too fast or too much? I don't really know how long liquids stay in my pouch and so I am a little confused. I don't want to do anything wrong and mess up my new tummy.
Thanks!

According to Dr. Baker's liquid guidelines for immediate post-ops, you should sip only 3 - 4 ounces of fluid PER HOUR for the first 2 months post-op.
So if you use that guideline, 1/8 cup is far too LITTLE to be drinking over a whole hour. (1/8 cup = 1 fluid ounce) If you sleep for 8 hours in a day, that leaves 16 waking hours. If you are only drinking 1 ounce of fluid per hour, even if you drink without stopping all day long, that is still only 16 ounces of fluid per day total. That is NOT enough. It will especially not be enough when you start taking breaks during that day for eating meals.
You should be drinking 3/8 - 4/8 cup of water (3 - 4 ounces) per hour. You may even have to FORCE it past comfort at first. I did. In fact, I had to FORCE myself to drink 48 ounces per day until about 6 months out at which time I FORCED myself to up it to 64 ounces per day. I was still getting postural hypertension sometimes, so I had to FORCE myself to increase above 64 and drink between 80 - 100 ounces of fluid most days now. (I'm not advocating that everyone drink 80 - 100 ounces per day, but my body needed above 64 ounces per day to stay adequately hydrated. Many of you may be just fine with the minimum 64 ounces per day.)
But I digress. 1/8 cup per hour is not too much. It is not too fast.
1 ounce per hour x 16 waking hours = 16 ounces per day <------ you are here
2 ounces per hour x 16 waking hours = 32 ounces per day
3 ounces per hour x 16 waking hours = 48 ounces per day <------ you need to be here for now
4 ounces per hour x 16 waking hours = 64 ounces per day <------ you will need to be here later
