Oh my go****hese protein shakes that we have to drink before surgery are making me sick. It just started this morning. I woke up and had my dad make a shake for me, and I took one sip of it, and I was very sick to my stomach. I think im getting sick of the sweet taste all the time, and want to try something else, but I cant have food... Is there any  way that I can maybe slim down the shakes and make them easier to go down? I only have 5 more days left on the liquid diet, and then I am on jello and chicken broth the night before surgery. Sorry this was a little off of topic, but I couldnt figure out how to post a new one.... (Im still a rookie)

Thanks Guys....

Love yah all

Since I'm a patient of Gibbs (who doesn't require the liqid diet pre-op for most of his patients), I don't know for sure, but I'd think you could add more water to them?  Tell you what, go to one of  Wendy's  responses to a post and click on "contact". It will give you a screen where you can send her a message privately.
Or, you can ask the question by going to the main AR page and at the top is a button to push that says "new topic".  Then you can start a new thread with this question. I'd bet a bunch of Baker's patients will be able to help you more than me.

Hugs to ya

Susan

When I had to do this, we were OK'd to add a small amount of fresh fruit to the shake and this seemed to help.  I often added a few fresh raspberries or a bit of banana and ran through the blender.   It really did make them more tolerable.   Also made them with chopped ice added.  You don't want to add much fruit though, since one of the purposes is to keep carbs very very low and help shrink the liver.   Good luck and hope your surgery goes as well as mine did.

Steve,

Thank you very much for the info... It was greatly appreciated.  I agree with the fruit making the shakes more tolerable. I added some raspberries to mine today, and added a little more water then before. I also used crushed ice, and that made it much easier to go down. I made sure to look at the calories of the fruit I added, and was very careful on how much I added. Thank you very much, and I plan on seeing you after surgery at a few meetings...
