I survived!!!!!!!!!!  Completed the race in 43:02, which was not as good as I'd hoped, but definitely not horrible, either!

It was horribly cold outside, and it started to drizzle just as the race began.  Right after I finished, the rain really started to come down, so it was a pleasant morning. ;)

Overall, the race was decent.  There were several hills on the roads which I was not prepared for, but it was a good learning experience.  The route was well-marked and I sure appreciated the volunteers handing ou****er at the halfway point.  I gotta tell you, though, when I saw that 2 mile mark, I was so angry -- I thought surely I must be further along than that!!!!  Then a school bus almost ran over me at an intersection (nice).  I was really struggling at the end... I was a mess.  I wanted to quit, vomit, and cry.  A few ladies hung in there with me around mile 3 and one offered some welcome encouragement.  They passed me on the last hill.  Coming back up to the hospital at the end, there's one last hill... I passed my car on the way up and had to force myself not to just walk over and get in!  I couldn't make myself run that hill, but near the top, I broke into a sprint and hit the finish line full bore.  I was quite disappointed in my time, but a couple hours later, I finally realized -- I FINISHED!! -- and that's what counts. :-)

I don't know if this racing thing is really for me, but I'm registered already for the LR Marathon 5K so I feel obligated to give that one a shot... I may "retire" for a while after that, though, at least until I get some more miles under my belt. ;)

Got the idea???

Ok, I got chills reading this, and a chuckle when I got to the part about going past your car. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo  proud of you, words can't say!  Maybe a "dry run" of the route the next time so you will be better prepared for those hills and such?  Glad the bus missed you, they tend to think they own the road, don't they?  Really.....I'm sure the route was marked for traffic, so what the heck was the bus doing there?

Anyway I'm glad you had a good experience and, you're right; the main thing is is that you finished!!!

Big, Big hugs!

Way to go.  Just finishing in those conditions is a real accomplishment.  And passing by your car -------- well, that's determination!  Have you had a mental evaluation lately?  I need one too since I played golf in the same junk on Saturday.   Seriously though, good job.  Most of us would not have done it in those conditions.
