Caloric Intake at 20 months out
Hi all, it has been a while since i posted. I read as often as i can. My question is how many calories are you taking in at almost 2 years out. I am thinking that I am not getting in enough, I have not made my goal yet and can not seem to get the weight loss started again.
I am getting in enough water, and I think enough protein, but as far as my calories I think I am getting in around 1200 - 1400. Is that too much? Not enough? or what?
Thanks for the in put.

I'm not that far out yet, but I'm at goal and doing 1700 calories a day to try to maintain.
You didn't mention whether or not you were at goal, wanted to gain or lose.
If you want to maintain, I'd go get a MedGem test to tell you exactly how many calories you need to consume to maintain.
That's what I did and I have not regretted it once.
Good luck!

That is not unrealistic AT ALL.
But I totally agree with Susan. I didn't notice that you weren't journaling your intake. You really MUST do that. Otherwise you won't know where your problem spots are. I am AMAZING at numbers (if I do say so myself) and even I can't know whether or not my numbers are good without journaling. Start NOW!!!

Hi Cynthia,
I checked out your profile to see what I could gather there. I'm a patient of Gibbs, too, and had my surgery 29 months ago. My BMI was 42.3, so we were just the same starting out. We must be about the same height, too....I'm 5'3". What's yours?
According to your ticker, you have about another 15 lbs to go? Let me tell you, it's usually the toughest! Now, you say you "think you're getting in enough protein, and you think you getting in around 1200-1400 cals a day". This is a red flag to me because it tells me you're not logging your intake, otherwise you'd know for sure. That's where I'd start....TODAY! You can't really adjust what you're not certain of.
Okay, so you're going to start logging your intake making sure you're doing the 40-30-30 rule. 40% of your calories from protein, 30% from carbs and 30% from fat. Are you getting in 70-80 grams of protein a day? If not, you might want to up your protein to 90-100 grams and that might help you jump start things.
Lastly, I agree with Wendy about the MedGem test. You can call Carrie at Gibbs office, the former Dietitian at Baptist used to administer it, but I'm not sure her replacement does it. She charged $50 for it when she was there. Kelly Turpin at Conway Regional 501-450-9292 is who we went to see for the test. It's $100 there and it includes an hour consultation regarding your diet plan. Well worth every penny, IMO. The test will tell you just how many calories you need to maintain your current weight, which, in turn will help you determine where you should go if you want to lose some more.
Glad to see you back. Hope this has helped.

I have been tracking my calories for the past week, and they have been ranging brtween 1200-1400 calories. I don't have the money to take a test to tell me how many calories I should be getting in. I was just hoping someone could give me an idea of how many they were taking in at almost 2 years out. That way it will give me an idea of what I should be taking in.
By the way I am 5'9" and currently 195-200 pounds.
Any suggestions???
