I am 9 mos. out from rny surgery. On friday I had rotator cuff surgery, I was sent home with pain meds and on Sunday started having a reaction to them, on Mon. the Dr. switched meds now having a reactionto new meds. Could this be rny related? I would love to stop taking them but pain is still bad at night.
Sorry about my typing skills im down to 1 finger!

Hi there,

What kind of reaction? Itching?  What pain meds did Dr Fuller put you on when you came home from your rny?

I've had rotator cuff surgery, I know what you're going through. Do you have any of the pain meds left over from your rny? If you're having itching and that type of reaction, it's the meds, IMO. But, if you're having problems in the area of your pouch, then that's a different story.

thank you for your reply Susan. i was on the same pain meds as with r n y but this time i got very ill.i was sick to my stomach and had a very bad headache. Shanon a Dr fullers office called me yesterday and said that the problem i was having was not related to r n y. i got back with my surgeon and he prescribed a different pain med, one without codeine as that seems to be my problem. had a great nights sleep last night, feel good today! yeah!!!

That was going to be my guess.  Several of the high powered pain meds cause headaches and upset stomach.  My doctor prescribed Darvocet for me for some really bad shoulder pain I'm having and I had the worst headache I can ever remember from them.  I go next week to see the ortho doc.  The xray showed two different rough areas in the shoulder joint.  The pain just keeps getting worse and lasting longer so I guess it's time to address it.  Rotator cuff surgery is rough.  All of the people I've taken care of say it's really painful during the first part of recovery.  I'll be thinking of you.

Sybul, I sure don't envy you rotator cuff surgery. I had it about 14 years ago and it's pretty tough. You'll get through it though.

So glad you got this taken care of and you got some rest. Calling the office is always the best bet. That Shannon is a sweetie!

Take care
