two questions -
My job requires I mostly eat out fast food, but I want to make good choices when I do.  Does anyone know off hand a good choice at
sonic
steak escape
mexican food
taco bell

also, where can you find the Isopure ready-made drinks?  I haven't had any luck finding them yet.
thanks

Hello,

I tried to look at your profile to see if you were pre-op or post op, but it's on private. Did you know that? This might be a reason you haven't had any responses to your question, so you might want to look into that. It's so much easier to answer questions when we know more about you.

First of all, the Isopure ready to drink can be found at GNC.  The first week of the month you can get 10% off if you have a membership, and some times they are on sale at the same time. I drank a lot of these when I was first post op because they're so easy. But....BEWARE!!!! If they're not ICE cold they can be pretty nasty!

Which brings me to your first question, which I am responding to secondly...LOL.

Ok....you must change your plan of attack, IMHO. Sorry to be blunt, but I'd bet my house on that fast food everyday is not on your surgeon's program. Don't even go there!  Consider the reasons why you need to have WLS in the first place; poor eating habits. Now is the time to change them and you have a golden opportunity to do so.
Since you're going to want to have an ice chest for your Isopure, consider taking your meals and snack with you. Most surgeons require their patients to take 20-30 minutes to eat their meals, so you need to think about that, as well. When you're newly post op, the food you eat will mostly be mushy and you really can't find that at a fast food restaurant, with the exception of Wendy's chili and Taco Bell's pintos and cheese. Those are good choices, and personally, the only ones I'd recommend for now.

WLS is wonderful tool, but requires lots of dedication, planning and work. I hope what I've said didn't come across as harsh.  We're all here to help and many of us have been rowing the same boat for a long time. Let us know what we can do to help.

not too harsh at all.  I have not had surgery, but I am doing lots of research.  I asked for later down the road, when I am in a pinch at work.  I knew it wouldn't be on the dr. orders.  LOL!  Thanks for the info on Isopure.  I thought I'd pick some up for protein when I wasn't doing shakes at home, etc.  Your wisdom is appreciated - I see you post on here alot.  I MAY have surgery in March.  I have been approved, but I'm still waiting and decided to tackle losing some lbs. even before the dr. puts me on liquids.  That was the reason for the taco bell question.
thanks again

Pre-op, I loved a good taco bell salad -- however, you need to STAY AWAY from the shell and the sour cream.  If you dump some salsa on that puppy and mix it up, you've got a not-too-terrible meal.  It's definitely not something I could handle post-WLS, though.  Have you checked out taco bell's website?  They have awesome nutritional info; you can customize just about any menu item to your specifications.

With Wendy's, I'd have to ditto chili and maybe salads.  You want to be careful with any dressings and "extras", like croutons, cheese, etc.  I'm not familiar with Steak Escape, sorry.

Something easy to do would be to get some fresh fruit and veggies, cheese cubes, and wheat thins and carry those with you in the car.  Have you tried Laughing Cow cheese wedges?  They are fantastic!  Basically, I would advise you to work on a low-fat, lower-carb diet now -- it'll make post-op life so much easier.

I haven't tried the Isopure, but I like the Myoplex ready-to-drink and you can find those just about anywhere.  17 grams of protein!  I also like the sugar-free ready-to-drink Carnation Instant Breakfast drink....lotsa protein.

Immediately after surgery probably the thought of fast-food will make you want to hurl, but when you feel you can tolerate it there are choices just about everywhere.  We eat out once a week and I can find a plain grilled chicken breast most places (Sonic and Mexican restaurants included), and at Steak Escape maybe you could just get little bit of baked potato or a couple of slices of meat.

Start going to the support group meetings now.  You'll learn so much before surgery!
