Reasons NOT to go to Mexico for Weightloss Surgery...

Hello everyone,

I have been reading a lot lately about people wanting to go to Mexico for their weightloss surgery and I get asked about it all the time. I think  the following reasons speak for themselves. Before you go south of the border to get surgery, please understand this...

1. Just because the surgery is cheaper does not mean that it is better. I have not met a surgeon in the state that will take care of you after you go to Mexico for the surgery. What you save in the beginning- believe me-you will pay for in the end.

2. If you have a band placed in Mexico, I can guarantee you that no surgeon that is worth his/her salt will take care of you and do your fills in the states.

3. If  you have an emergency and need immediate surgery it is always best to have the surgeon who did your initial surgery close to take care of you. A lot of surgeons that don't specialize in Bariatrics don't know all there is to know about taking care of a post op patient and any complications that can arise down the road.

4. Some people think that they can go to Mexico and have surgery and then have their family doctor take care of them for the long term. Again, there is an experience factor to take into consideration. Primary care physicians don't have the knowledge and training needed to care for patients in all aspects of weight loss surgery.

Please consider Dr. Josh Roller before going to Mexico. He is the only fellowhip-trained bariatric surgeon in AR or OK... His web site is www.rollerweightloss.com

Thanks,
Wendi

Good points.  There is a gal on the Oklahoma forum that had a lap band in Mexico, and is doing great.  I have never asked who does her fills.  Also, the woman who has the blog, worldaccordingtoeggface, had her WLS and plastic surgery in Mexico.  But I agree with you, Wendi.  I feel better knowing I have access to my surgeon.  I have heard a story of one person, who had the procedure in Mexico and took a shower after surgery and got a terrible infection in the wounds from the water.
