Tomorrow may be the day

Hi all,

Well Verizon closes the Alltel deal on Friday and word around Alltel is that they will send about 200 of us on our way tomorrow.   Many others will  be let go over the next few months.  

Not looking for sympathy, but would  appreciate your thoughts and prayers.  I know that everythng will work out fine, but its still hard to accept after 30 years of working there.

Even though you've known about it for a while it still is a very stressful thing to go through.  Thirty years is a long time.  You and your family will be in my thoughts.  Are you planning to retire early?  My sister just retired from Exxon last week and she has really been rubbing it in, lol.  She is 54. the lucky dog.  She is thinking about doing some traveling for a while.  Of course I volunteered to be her traveling companion!  Hang in there.

No retirement for me yet.  They screwed up the pension with this deal so I will just have to find something else to do for a few more years.  That's ok though, I am not mentally ready for retirment yet anyway.   Good luck on becoming your sister's traveling companion.  That sounds like the kind of job I would really be interested in.  Does it pay well?

Well Steve, I sure hope for the best tomorrow, but at least you'll be prepared for the worst. 

Son of a biscuit, that royally sucks about the pension!  I'll be thinking about you lots today.  See you tonight?

Thanks Wendy.  Looks like I won't be able to make it tonight - my daughter needs me to tend a deal with her, but I will be sure t o make it next month.  Yall have fun.  Wish I could be there.

Thanks Lisa, you are way too kind.   I am not sure what I want to do yet.  I have done a lot of financial and legal stuff in the telcom business and would like to use that experience elsewhere if possible.  The telcom industry isn't a great place to be these days, although it has been very good for me over the past.   I may try do some consulting in the industry until I find something more permanent.

How are you and your daughter getting along with the "new You's"?  I'll bet y'all are seeing some real changes by now.
