Peanut POWER Butter - A Review from the guinea pig among you...
Well, as promised, I have tried and am typing this review for the Power Butter I got recently.
Here is goes.
Short Version?
I loved it. It's actually better than real peanut butter - more filling, more flavorful and has a better texture/consistency.
Long Version?
I recently acquired some Power Butter (or Peanut Power Butter - whichever you want to call it) from www.fitnessfirstusa.com (see http://www.fitnessfirstusa.com/details.asp?item=9134 OR go to www.fitnessfirstusa.com and type in power butter into the search block).
I have tried this product by itself on toast and I have tried dipping apples into it like I normally do PB2. It is great either way. In fact, I could just sit and eat tablespoons of it all by itself. It is that good.
Per tablespoon, it has:
91 calories
4.75 g fat
3 carbs
6 g protein
(The nutrition facts on the internet do NOT match the nutrition facts on the actual jar I recieved. So I am going by the nutrition facts on the jar I received since that is what is required by law to be accurate.)
The CONSISTENCY of this peanut butter is the first thing that I noticed. At first, it appears a lot more "runny" that normal peanut butter. However, when you stir it up, it doesn't appear as runny. HOWEVER, it IS creamier than normal - especially low fat - peanut butter. (If you held a spoonful of peanut butter on a spoon sideways, it would stick to the spoon like glue. If you held a spoonful of power butter on a spoon sideways, it would slide off like extremely thick brownie batter.)
The TEXTURE of this peanut butter is the next thing that I noticed. It is somewhat oilier than normal - and especially low fat - peanut butter. It is not oily in a bad way (although if you're like I'd probably be reading this, you'd be wondering how something can be oily in a GOOD way - but it really is). I say it's tastes oilier - not greasier. You can really taste the flax oil in it and it is GOOD. You can also definately sense the texture of the flax seed, making it almost seem like some kind of hybrid creamy/crunchy peanut butter because of the little flax seed flecks through each bite. It's perfect.
The TASTE of this peanut butter is what seals the deal though. It TASTES like full fat, regular peanut butter. (It is about 47% fat. That's obviously worse than my powdered peanut butter friend PB2 - which is about 32% fat. But it's better than regular peanut butter - which is about 76% fat - and even low fat peanut butter - which is about 57% fat.) It is more flavorful than PB2 which can be somewhat bland. (Let's be honest, noone wants to eat PB2 by itself on toast. At least I don't want to. Can you say FLAVORLESS?) You could definately do Power Butter (by itself) on toast and it would taste good.
It's also easier to eat without drinking. You know how regular peanut butter can make bread clump together and worry you when you swallow it. (Will this get stuck or will it go through?) Regular peanut butter can also be hard to eat without drinking - like eating a sugar daddy or something after the first bite or two. That is NOT the case with Power Butter.
It is more expensive than regular peanut butter or even PB2. But if you love peanut butter, you really have to try it. If you buy from www.fitnessfirstusa.com, please buy through their referral program and tell them Wendy Fou referred you.
Thanks and enjoy....
