I switched to Dr. Roller!
It's a long story, but I know I have made the right choice, and he performs all the pre-op tests. Check out my profile if you want to know the details. I went to the seminar a couple weeks ago, and I knew Dr. Roller was the RIGHT surgeon for me. I also had my barium swallow today, and it was one of the worst experiences of my life! Some people have no problem with it, but I have a very weak stomach, and I just could'nt handle the barium. I almost barfed 3 times. I kept throwing it back up and swallowing it, (sorry TMI) because I know I had to have the test to have the surgery. That barium is just horrible. Has anyone heard from Amy R? Oh yeah, And you Dr. Roller patients, how long did it take to get your pre-op appt. with Dr. Roller? All my test are done, and I have already been approved with my insurance.

Hi Amanda,
I'm Tammy. I had my VSG with Dr. Roller in June and I'm so happy I decided to go with him. He's the best! I was scheduled for my pre-op (and had my surgery) within the month after my test results were in. I know they have gotten busier but I still don't think it will be too long. Don't be afraid to call and ask Mari or Wendy how long they think it will be. When you get to that point you want it done yesterday and they know that.
Sorry you had such a tough time with the barium swallow test. It was awful for me too. I asked the tech how many times they'd been barfed on:). Yuck, yuck and YUCK! You will most likely have to have another swallow test the day after surgery but it's not as bad because you don't have to drink as much of it.
Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. I spend most of my time on the VSG forum but check in here weekly or so. I hope to see you at the December support group meeting!

I'll have to check out your story, but I just have to say that I love Dr.Roller! They were much newer when I had my surgery so they are way busier now, but I had my first appointment January 2 and had RNY February 13. It took about a week to hear back from my insurance and I hadn't ahd any pre-op testing done before January 2. When my husband was getting ready for his surgery, the thing that took the longest was the psych eval. A few months ago, they only saw Dr.Roller's patients 1 day out of the week and could take up to a week to get the report to Dr.Roller before it could be submitted to insurance. I think they make have taken care of some of those issues, but that was Johnny's biggest hold up.
