I have BC/BS and they cover the procedure, but I have none of the other stuff people talk about needing  to get it covered like high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.  I have asthma and I have a home machine, I suspect sleep apnea and I want to get that tested.  Anyways, my question is  if my BMI is 40, do I need anything else?  If I go for the consult and do some of the other testing, will they still say no.  I called them several times and they won't give me a answer without the consult.  I don't want to spend the money for the consult unless I know they will cover it.  I can not aford to be a self-paid and my deductible is $2500.00.  Is there anyone who has dealt with Ark. BC/BS.
thank you

it's worth the cost of the consult to find out.  generally speaking, a BMI of 40 is enough to qualify you without other co-morbidities.  whatever doctor you choose will have a staff that is great to help you work through insurance stuff.

MY BCBS insurance covered my RNY...an entire $4k of it! So generous. I know there are a ton of different plans, just make sure there isn't a cap on the benefit. Mine said it explicitly, then the people on the phone told me they covered it. When I pointed out what it said they had to look into. Turns out, they only covered $4k. It went from a max of $4k out of pocket for me to $4k for them. That's a big difference...lol.
