Good morning and welcome to the Arctic.  Well, its not the Arctic, but it is a cold wet day out there.   If you haven't been out yet, this is the day you get to go back to your closet for a jacket and if you are a first year loser like me, you get to find out that there is no way you can possibly wear last year's model - hard to beleive how that thing could have fit last season.

Hope you are enjoying a prosperous week.  I enjoyed my anniversary party at work yesterday.  They even managed to find two people who have been there longer than me - man, those people are old!   Stayed away from the cake, but it did look good.  They created some "atmosphere" by playing some of the hits from 1978.   Oh how I hate disco music.  It was fun to think back over the years and remember all the things we thought were so critical at the time that are now so unimportant.  There is a good lessen in that somewhere.

Have a great day today.  This is the only chance we get at today, so let's make it count.

Here's my yesterday,  How about you?

Good morning!!!!  It is certainly cool out this morning, was hard to get out of bed.  Im learning how hard it is to work from home and still be disciplined.  When the rain was beating on the tin roof, it was SOOOO hard to get out!!  I managed to get out and have some coffee, now its almost 10 and Im thinking bout breakfast!!

Life is great now, the new job is slow and hard going at first, but I am sure it will all work out.  I went back yesterday and turned in my keys and a file I had and she was so cold towards me, it kinda hurt, I mean, we were friends from grade school up!!!  OH WELL, her loss.

My eating yesterday was fair.  Not great, but fair.

Wake up-Coffee
Breakfast-Oops, none, now that I think about it.
Lunch-Fried chicken thigh minus the skin but so no value there.
Lunch-second attempt-1/2 cup natural trail mix and 1 cup popcorn, over the course of 2 hours

Dinner-1/2 pork chop and 1/4 cup steamed squash and onions

Gee, yesterday was worse than I thought.  Guess I'll get back on protein shakes since my stomach doesnt seem to like food anymore.  Glad its cold, I can break out the sugar free hot choc and choc protein powder that will help!!!!

Im off of here to do some job work, after I go fry an egg for breakfast!!!

Hugs,
Rhonda D.

I'm feeling about the same today as I was yesterday.  I didn't make it through the whole day at work - took the last half the day off.  I hope I'm back to 100% soon.  This is getting old.  Actually... it got old about 4 or 5 days ago.  It's BEYOND old now.

In any event, here is my yesterday...

Hi gang,

For a day off I sure was busy today!  Got the house clean, laundry all done,   worked on the Christmas gifts we give away at the salon, did some shopping, made a nice dinner for DH, and still had time to play my new Nintendo DS game that came in the mail today.  Ankle still swollen, but not as badly as the beginning of the week. So, maybe taking it easy is what it needed.

Here's yesterday's menu.

latte

whole wheat tortilla w/ eggbeaters and turkey sausage

latte

1/2 baked potato w/ turkey chili, bit of salad

1/2 PB&J

Onion soup, green salad w/ blue cheese

a few almonds tossed in here and there

Not a great day, but a day none the less.

I'm sure looking forward to Monday.....seems we have quite a group planning on coming!

I seriously don't know how you all get in so much food!  I realize I'm only 6 weeks into this but I struggle daily with food and liquid intake, and fail miserably most days.  I purchased some of the HMR shake mixes from Dr. Baker's office yesterday to try and increase it that way, but have only managed to get 1/2 of one down so far today. I'm working on some beans now, but I've had nothing else the rest of the day. UGH.

Hi there,

PLEASE....don't compare what we eat to what you can eat!!!  Rhonda and Wendy are over a year out and I'm over 2, Steve is a guy, so (sorry Steve) his needs are different too.

You must eat. You must find something that you can tolerate and, even if you eat it three times a day, do it! Not only is it bad for your health, you will actually sabotage your weight loss efforts because your body will think it's not going to get anything to eat and will hold onto what ever meager amount you give it.

Do you have difficulty eating, or are you just not hungry?  At six weeks it normal not to feel hunger so you need to have yourself on a schedule. Did you tolerate soft foods well?  Might stay on that for a bit to see how you do.

I'm here to help, as are all of the other "old timers", so let us know your progress.

Hugs!

Susan

Hi Mel,
Like Susan said, things change a lot over time.  At six weeks out, I could not eat very much at all.  I never felt hungry and only ate because it was time to do so.  I just tried to get 60g of protein and didn't worry about eating much else at that point.   As time moved forward, I was able to eat more things, but still didn't get very hungry - still don't feel hungry very often.   At five or six months I was eating around 600 - 700 cals and getting 70 or 80 g of protein and starting to have trouble losing much weight - the old body said "you aren't giving me much and I ain't lettin' go of anything more."  Doc said I had to add more food.  I resisted but finally caved in and increased up to 1200 cals and 125g of protein as my new targets.  It's really hard to eat that much most days, but I did start losing again.   lesson learned - I have to eat adeqately or I won't lose, plus I need those nutrients.  I do plan what I am going to eat pretty carefully to keep fats, carbs and protein in balance and I feel really good most of the time.  Like Susan said, try to find some high protein foods that you can tolerate and eat enough of them to get your needs in.  It may seem boring, but over time it gets easier and you will be able to add different things.  It just takes time and a whole lot of effort - but its worth it.   Hope this helps.  Hang in there and just keep trying. It gets easier.  Keep us posted on your progress.  We are all pulling for you.

I agree with Susan.  Don't compare your diet at 6 weeks out with ours.  It is like living in 2 different worlds.  WE didn't eat this way 6 weeks out.  In fact, here is exactly what I ate exactly 6 weeks to the day of my RNY...

DATE TIME  FOOD/FLUID CALORIES FAT CARBS PROTEIN FLUID OZ % FAT CAL

Susan & Steve,

Thanks for the encouraging words. I have the HMR shakes again to assist with the amount of protein, and I eat a lot of beans and cottage cheese. I'm pretty sick of the same foods! I tried chilli last week- 3 bites and I was done. lol. My tummy didn't like it very well. I haven't had any issues with throwing up- I'm just never hungry, and when I eat it's hard to eat much. I did manage to get in about 35g of protein yesterday-definitely a high for me. The South Beach protein bar helped a lot.. so thanks Steve for listing your foods! My weight loss has definitely slowed down, and I'm still swimming laps 5 days a week for an hour. I know its the intake thats killin it.

Thanks again,
Melissa
