We have a surgery date!!!
Carrie called this afternoon and my daughter and I are scheduled for Wednesday, December 3rd! It seems like forever away but I hope the time will pass quickly.
Honestly, I'm not afraid of the actual procedure at all. I am worried about the first week or two post-op, because I've heard that most people feel pretty weak and light-headed from not eating much. I have a desk job so my physical demands will be few, but my daughter is in high school and has to lugg a very heavy backpack up and down stairs all day. Also, I'm a bit aprehensive about the amount of school she will miss, but hopefully, her teachers will work with us.
I've found myself doing/saying things like, "It's OK to eat this ice cream because after surgery we won't be able to!" Did anyone else do that? I'll be the first patient in history to gain 20 pounds immediately preceeding surgery!

First of all, CONGRATS!!! I am so happy for you girls!
I know I feel the same way. I want to eat all my favorites and go to my fav rest. Olive Garden. But the truth is, some people are able to eat ice cream/sweets after surgery, maybe not at first but later on down the road. Not all people dump. It's not a magic cure. We are gonna have to work at it. But I hope I can just have a bite of something, and say thats all I want.
I hope me, you and your daughter are in the hosp. at the same time! That would be so so awesome! I hope Carrie calls me tommorrow. This suspense is killing me! I just want to know my date! (((hugs))) Amanda H.

Mama to Colton Lane-11/14/06 Camden Lee-4/14/10
starting weight-333 current weight-216 Ive lost 117 POUNDS!!!
Congratulations!
You will not be the first to gain weight before surgery, I tried to eat everything I thought I might not be able to eat after surgery! When thay called to say my surgery might be postponed I said "NOOOOO! you cant do that" I have been eating so much I will have to be cut out of my house, It will make the six oclock news!
As soon as I had the surgery I thought how silly I had been, now I had to lose that extra 20 pounds! The moral of my story is this, I dont miss any of the food I cant eat now, I'm so busy getting my protien, vitamins and water in every day that I never think about missing any food.
I'm satisfied with the food I can eat, and I feel so good about making the choice to give myself
a chance at a healthy life.

Oh, wow!!! Hopefully your daughter will get to rest up plenty over Christmas vacation. Surely her teachers will be as accomodating as they can be; after all, she's doing this for her health! It may be tricky at first since we're not supposed to lift/carry heavy things for 6-8 wks post-surg, but after that, I'm sure she'll be in fighting shape in nothin' flat. All that walking will be good for her. ;-)
I find myself semi-envious of the "forced" exercise my skinny 14yo dd gets for much the same reason - she's got to carry stuff all day and haul butt from class to class. I just park at a desk for 8 hours, kwim?
I'm so excited for you two -- It won't be long now!
