I've got a surgery date...know what do I need to do or get?
Hey everyone...my surgery date is Nov.12th with Dr. Roller. I am very excited and now need to know what I need to get ready for the big day. Here are some of my questions...
Can I wear pj bottoms and a tee at the hospital. I am so not a nightgown/robe kinda girl?
What do I need to take with me?
What kind of protein bullets are there and where do I get them?
What shopping advice do you have?
Any and all advice will be much appreciated.

Hi!
Can I wear pj bottoms and a tee at the hospital. I am so not a nightgown/robe kinda girl?
I imagine you can wear whatever you want to at the hospital - so long as they can get to everything (stoma*****isions to inspect, tubes, etc).
What do I need to take with me?
I would take a puzzle book or something to read with you. That way, in case you have to stay days, you'll have something to do OTHER than watch tv. (If you have a laptop and they have wireless, take that too and tell us how you're doing from the hospital.)
What kind of protein bullets are there and where do I get them?
There are MANY different kinds of protein bullets. I used to use New Whey 42 bullets. (I don't anymore.) I bought mine by the case (12 per box/case) from www.fitnessfirstusa.com because of their low shipping charges.
Most places charge out the BUTT for shipping liquid protein because it is so heavy (it's liquid - DUH!). www.fitnessfirstusa.com charges a flat $6 for shipping NO MATTER HOW BIG YOUR ORDER IS.
I usually ordered 48 vials for $108 (24 vials is $54 making them only $2.25 per vial). They usually let me pick free gifts too. So I have got to try a couple of their protein bars for free. I have gotten drinking bottles, etc for free. They ship it right to your front door (vials, gifts and all) for $6. They also send you their magazine for free. The free gifts and the magazine aren't just the FIRST time you order either. I got them every time!
Also, there is a promo code someone gave me that you can put in when you check out to get $5 off - that makes shipping $1!!! The promo code I was given is oconus1. It is supposed to have NO EXPIRATION date so it should work forever!
So for $109, I got 48 vials of liquid protein, free gifts and a free magazine. (I usually have my order within 3 - 4 days of when I place it.)
If you decide to buy from www.firstfitnessusa.com, please use their referral program and tell them that I Wendy Fou referred you. (They give you $50 for every 3 people that you refer, so you will probably want to participate in that too if you end up liking their protein.)
What shopping advice do you have?
That depends on what you're shopping for.
If we're talking clothes.... my advice is to buy EVERYTHING used (consignment, resale, goodwill, salvation army, thrift stores, etc) and buy everything TOO TIGHT. This will ensure that a) you don't go broke and b) by the time you wash something or get it dry cleaned, it won't be too big (because you bought it too small, it will fit just right by the time you get it washed or cleaned and into your closet).
If we're talking food.... my advice is to buy QUALITY. I pay over $5 a pound for ground beef (that I eat). For my FAMILY's ground beef (that I'll put into hamburger helper or something like that), I buy ground chuck. But for MY PERSONAL beef (that I'd make me a little cheeseburger out of or something), I buy the extremely lean 1 pound package of ground round that is about 94% lean. It costs between $5 - $6 for 1 pound. BUT, I divide that into 8 2 ounce portions (and freeze each 2 ounce serving in little snack size baggies so I can thaw them seperately). So even though it is $5 - $6 for 1 pound, I'll get 8 meals out of that. So it really is worth it to buy quality.
If we're talking vitamins.... my advice is to not just arbitrarily buy from "bariatric" vitamin companies. If Wal-Mart carries the same vitamin as those expensive companies and the DOSE is the same (as well as the consistency and coating), Kroger sublingual vitamin B-12 is no better or worse than expensive, special order bariatric sublingual vitamin B-12.

Congrats on your date!
I love Savers in NLR and that goodwill is good too.
I like Jay Robb whey protein...it doesn't have any art. junk in it and choc. van. and straw are good. I have to order some for my surgery!
I have been stocking up for my family at walgreens/walmart...you know, hair stuff, tp, etc. They have been having good sales/ads and will take their coupon and coupon's from paper--double coupons!
I am going to wear hospital gown and take my long robe and some slipper socks.
Wearing a "touch nothing but shoulders" dress to and from hospital and some bikini type panties and no wire bra so nothing will be close to the cuts.
Much hugs out to you!
