Hello all, I jsut discovered the Arkansas boards here.
this is great. My daughter and I had surgery on Sept. 10th and Dr. Gibbs said we are right on track. We are having headaches like crazy. Is anyone else having these problems? Thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to the Arkansas board. I also live in Hot Springs. Actually, Pearcy. I live right behind Lake Hamilton school. Congratulations to you and your daughter on your surgeries. What kind of surgery did you have? I haven't had a problem with headaches, so I can't help you much, but maybe some of the other people on here might have some ideas for you. If all else fails, call your doctor's office and talk to them about the headaches.
Again welcome, and just wanted to tell you that there is a lot of nice people on this site. They are always there for you with suggestions to help and always lots of support. I think you will like it here. Hope things go well for you. Stay in touch.

Ann

Hello sorry I'm just responding. I live near Hot Springs Hich School. It's nice to meet you. We had the bypass and for me the headaches are buggin. My daughter had to have EDG due to scar tissue and she was vomiting non stop. She spent 4 days int he hospital. I just want her to get better so we can get back to working out. thanks for the welcome.

Your bodies have been through a great stress and your LIFE has changed DRASTICALLY in the last month.  This stress ALONE is enough to give anyone a headache.  I didn't have that problem that I recall.  But I have definately had stress headaches (and migraines, etc) which unfortunately makes me somewhat of an expert on headaches, sadly enough.

Here are some other suspects - some probable and some improbable.

Did you drink soft drinks or caffeinated coffee pre-op and stop that post-op?  If so, maybe it is caffeine withdrawal.

Did you have an epidural with your surgery?  If so, it could be pro-longed spinal headaches (although it should be about time for those to have gone away... maybe yours are hanging around longer than most).

Have you STARTED eating/drinking a food (suspect #1: milk) that you did NOT eat/drink (or did not eat drink AS MUCH OF) as a pre-op?  If so, it could be an allergy that you are just now discovering.

Have you started your vitamins?  If so, believe it or not, you could be taking too many.  (Yes, you CAN take too many - especially if you're a bandster and aren't malabsorbing anything.  Headaches can be a symptom of vitamin overdose.  Not common at all.... but worth mentioning.)

Were you taking blood pressure (or other) medication prior to your surgery?  If so, you may no longer need it and taking it may be causing your headaches since it is throwing you out of balance now.  (I remember Dr. Baker talking in a seminar about a patient who was having some sort of problem post-op.  Dr. Baker asked him if he was still taking his blood pressure medication and the patient said yes.  Dr. Baker asked that he try NOT taking it for a few days.  The patient went off it and quit having problems all together.  He just no longer needed that medication.  His blood pressure was fine without it and the medication must have been running his blood pressure LOWER than it NEEDED to be - causing his problems, whatever they were - I don't recall.)  NOTE:  I am not advocating arbitrarily cutting off any meds.  I'm just suggesting a culprit for headaches.

What is your intake like?  Are you regularly consuming protein/carbs?  Your headaches could be the result of low blood sugar.  Are the headaches accompanied by sweating and/or feeling faint, etc?

Do the headaches occur all day long?  Just in the morning?  Mostly at night?  Where on your head does it hurt?

Edited to add:

Oh... by the way... welcome to the board.  LOL  (Sorry.  I should have said that first.)

Sorry i am jsut responding. My daughter hit a bump in the road and was int the hospital last week. thanks for the response. I have stopped all meds except blood pressure. I was on insulin and oral meds for diabetes I no longer tak any of that. I seem to have a headache when I wake up in the morning. It does not last all day, but does come back at times. It's not a migraine it's just annoying. I do hope it goea away soon. As for the protein stuff, Lauren is checking on some other possiblities so far everything we try makes us throw up. I am pass the coffee withdrawls.
