I was just wondering if anyone could steer me to some research or info on how WLS effects life in the "later years."  Are there 70,80 year old people who have had WLS when they were younger and if so are they an anomally or what?  Does WLS provide a greater quality of life now but have issues with geriatric life/meds/etc.  ?

I think you are going to have some problems finding the data since the first original staplings started around 30 years ago and they wouldn't do it unless you were young, so to speak.  I can say that my aunt had it done back then and she lived an awesome life and passed away from cancer last Thanksgiving.  She was a beautiful woman and her last 30 years were of quality and much better than the way I remember her as a child.  Also I am seeing some 10 to 12 year post ops on other boards on this site and life is normal for them.  I truly believe in my heart that the new studies coming out about gastric bypass and curing diabetes is only going to prove more and more benefits as time goes on.  I am extremely compliant in my regime and can't wait  til I am a grandma and hold those beautiful babies someday and maybe even the great grandchildren someday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best wishes
