My husband , Jason, just recieved mail saying his medicare starts at the first of the year. (He is only in his 30s but is disabled) He has to pick a part B plan if he wants it. We havent recieved the information pack on the plans yet, but wondered if anyone had advice about which plan to pick, or if it matters, for WLS, since that is a major priority for him?

Any advice on how to get help paying for the deductible?

thanks

I have no answer, but just wanted to wish you luck in your journey. You may want to contact your prospective physicians office to find out detailed information.

OMG I know what yall are going threw.  When I first found out my medicare was starting I almost drove myself crazy with all that insurance stuff and still do not understand most of it.
I found out about a new program or not so new program but several does not know anything about it.  It is called Alternatiive Medicade.  I am not sure what your husbands disbility is but the way this works if he is someone that need someone to help him in the home with things because he is unable to do some things for himself.  Such as house work, cooking, and even personal items this program lets you hire someone to do this for you.  Yes you hire the person but Medicade pays them.  It can be a family member (but not a spouce).  As long as you keep someone in the home like this you will also recieve a Medicade card with will pay what ever Medicare does not pay in medical and meds.
To find out more or to get on this program you will need to contact your local Department of Human Services.  Ask them about the Alternative Medicade Program.
This is what I am on and have been every sence I got my medicade started and it payed 100 percent of my WLS.  But you will have to use a Doctor and hospital who is Certified by Medicare and for me that was Dr Baker and Baptist Hospital.  At the time He was the only doctor in the state of Arkansas who was Certified.  Not sure about now tho maybe someone else can help you with that.
If for some reason you are not elgible for this program contact your doctors office and talk to the person who handles the insurance part they can help point you in the right directions on all the different insurances.
Hope this helps you some.

thanks everyone for the help.
Jason is can do most anything and since I was laid off this past spring I am home all the time, so that type wont work for us but any information is helpful. You never know when you might need it. My mom just turned 65 and is getting medicare and I heard what a head ache it was for her to pick a plan and be sure it was the right one, so I wanted to try to get as much info as soon as I could to help make the choice. With WLS not your typical surgery I was afraid we would run into problems getting the right plan that we can afford. Still worried...lol. I will just keep fingers crossed and pray we do this right.

Another question....(still curious about any advice on medicare too..lol)

If he goes to L.R. for the surgery will he have to go there for the support group or can he attend one closer to home? I realize he will have to go there for check ups with that doctor. We live in northeast arkansas and it takes almost 3 hours one way to get to Little Rock. I'm worried about being able to afford to drive that far alot.

Research, research.  Arkansas is one of the few states that do not require the insurance companies to offer the supplemental insurance to people under 65.  Hopefully your husband can get the additional coverage through his work.
