Those that have had the open RNY..
I was not able to ware one for about a month. To me it seemed like the top of the incesion was more sore than any of it. Also you want to ware something really loose fetting and confortable to the hospital so you can also ware it home.
My incesion is just below my breast and so was my drain tube I had to keep in for a month that will also prevent you from waring a bra.

This is a GREAT question - one I didn't think to ask pre-op.
Dr. Baker's open incision starts up almost UNDER the bottom of most bras.
Feel of your breast bone right in the center of your chest. Use your fingers to palpatate down the center of your breast bone until you get the to bottom of the breast bone (where the ribs flare out on each side. The top of my incision begins right at the bottom of that breast bone. I can fit MAYBE one finger between the bottom of my breast bone and the top of my incision.
I was a CPAP user too, so required a tube. My tube came out to the left (MY left) of the top of my incision (about as far left of the top of my incision as the end of my thumb).
As big as my breasts were, I could not NOT wear a bra. My solution? I went to Wal-Mart and bought 2 bras that buckled in the front. I wore those with the bottom 2 buckles undone. That allowed me to still wear a bra, but NOT have a bra sitting/rubbing on my tube or the top of my incision. (My mother is currently doing the same thing even though she had open because one of her incisions was high up.)
