I have been banded for a week now and I am having problems getting enough food in. Never thought I would say that. The problem is I know I am not getting enough protein and I dont want this to hinder my weight loss. So can yall give some ideas on protein powder I was reading that they make some that you can put in your food and was wondering about that. I know some of you will respond this board has been great so thanks in advance.

I use the Body Fortress whey protein powder from WalMart.  It's $15 for a big container and it comes in plain, chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla.  It's high protein and low carb, low cal.   I put the vanilla or chocolate in my coffee in the morning all the time.  You can make yummy shakes out of the vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry with a little fruit and skim milk too.

There are SOOO many protein options out there that ANYONE can find something they like.  The problem is finding what YOU like and tolerate well (which will vary from person to person).

I find that I like the following best:
whey:
Designer Whey (chocolate and/or strawberry flavors)
soy:
Spiru-tein (banana, strawberry and/or blueberries & cream flavors)

Don't forget things like powdered egg whites and powdered milk that you can add to things to up their protein if you can't find a protein powder that agrees with you.

Good luck!

I use the Six Star, also from Wal Mart, it is a few dollars less than the body fortress, and it's a giant container.  It says 52 gms of protein per 2 scoops, and I use 1 scoop in morning and 1 scoop in evening since I don't think our bodies can absorb all 52 gms at once.  I am not sure exactly how much we can absorb at one time (Wendy, do you know?)

i switch between the chocolate and vanilla depending on when I get tired of one.  I find they are great in the morning made with ho****er and instant coffee, a little splenda and some creamer, and it can be like a cappuccino (vanilla works great but for a mocha capp try chocolate).

I think one of the more top of the line brands is unjury which has no flavor at all and many on the main board and rny board say they add it to food and drinks and such.  I think if you googled unjury recipes you would probably find a few weightloss surgery folks out there with pages full of unjury recipes.

What you will likely need to do is just try out a few until you find one you like vitalady.com sells protein samples and that way you can buy a bunch of samples and try them all to find which you like best.  And I am sure if you buy a big canister and don't like it, someone at a wls support group meeting, or from here will be more than happy to take it off your hands.

According to vitalady.com people can absorb about 30 grams at a time so I am guessing that WLS people would be even less.
